We are in for another WCAC thriller this Saturday! The winner will be leading the WCAC conference with one loss, while the loser will be sent home with their second defeat of the Spring season. Below we will look at some impact payers from each team.
Gonzaga Purple Eagles
2022 6’3 225 TE [player_tooltip player_id="90516" first="Nate" last="Kurisky"] – Uncommitted
The Junior tight end has ridiculously good hands and his big body makes him very hard to tackle. He’s also a massive difference maker on the offensive line where he displays impeccable run and pass blocking. If he can avoid matching up with star St. John’s defensive backs, [player_tooltip player_id="90362" first="Xavier" last="Terry"] and [player_tooltip player_id="90518" first="Joshua" last="Thompson"] specifically, by disguising his route running, then Kurisky can and will make a huge impact on this game. Even if the rock solid St. John’s secondary slows him down in the passing game, then watch out for Kurisky to showcase his run blocking talents.
2022 6’1 215 LB [player_tooltip player_id="90554" first="Jordan" last="Shuler"] – Uncommitted
When the ball snaps watch out for [player_tooltip player_id="90554" first="Jordan" last="Shuler"] to run through somebody. While he has his hands full against an elite St. John’s offensive line, it’s hard to imagine that Jordan will not get his hands on Cadet quarterback Wyatt Hagan at least twice. Shuler is a very elite outside linebacker and this matchup against a stout offensive line will truly show scouts how impactful he can be at the next level.
St. John’s Cadets
2022 5’6 170 RB [player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"] – Uncommitted
[player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"] has been incendiary recently and it’s going to take an all-out Gonzaga defensive effort to slow him down. With a 75 yard first half touchdown run in his previous contest, stay keen on Jamar early on in this game to break free for a large gain once again. He has been especially effective on third down for the Cadets, and he might just be the overall difference maker on Saturday. There’s no doubt you’ll be hearing his name a lot win or lose, but if he plays like he has been recently then it’s going to be a long day for the Purple Eagles.
2022 6’0 185 QB Wyatt Hagan – Uncommitted
Along with [player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"], Wyatt Hagan will be the most important offensive player for the Cadets in this game. They’re facing an extremely high powered Gonzaga team so there’s no doubt that Hagan will have to stay poised in the pocket and throw for multiple touchdowns. He has been effective by mixing up his throws well and always looking out for his running back screen option, and if he can continue to do that on Saturday then the Cadets have a very good chance of winning. Hagan also has solid throwing on the run capabilities which we will certainly see him showcase against an elite Gonzaga defensive line. This is a phenomenal opportunity for Wyatt Hagan to prove himself as a next level quarterback.
