McCluer and Ritenour have been two of the more intriguing football teams in the St. Louis area this spring and when they met on Friday night, they were both coming off impressive victories.
McCluer came in with back to back wins over Hazelwood Central and Lift for Life after opening the spring season with a loss against Pattonville. Ritenour had bounced back from a season-opening loss to Hazelwood Central with a big win against McCluer North.
But on this night visiting McCluer was just too much for Ritenour and rolled to a 50-32 road victory behind some impressive individual performances.
Here’s a quick look at some of the standouts from Friday’s game...
<strong>McCLUER (3-1)</strong>

Comets coach [player_tooltip player_id="37169" first="Howard" last="Brown"] predicted a big spring for this talented junior and Gillespie has lived up to that hype and established himself as a player to watch this fall.
Against Ritenour, Gillespie scored three touchdowns three different ways. He ran for 74 yards and a touchdown (on seven carries), caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown and also returned a kickoff 77 yards for a score. That was his second kickoff return touchdown this spring.
After scoring six touchdowns during his sophomore season, Gillespie has scored five in four games this spring. He’s also got 355 total yards, with 237 coming from 10 receptions and 118 on the ground.

<strong>Micheal Hopkins, QB, 5-11, 188, Class of 2022</strong>
Hopkins put up big numbers through the air through the first three weeks of the season, but against Ritenour he showcased his ability to run. He completed seven of 14 passes for 74 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception, but then he ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries.
Through four games this season, Hopkins has completed 60 percent (57 of 95) of his passes for 945 yards, with eight touchdowns against one interception. He's also rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

<strong>RITENOUR (1-2) </strong>
<strong>Marcellus Griffin, QB-RB, 5-9, 175, Class of 2021</strong>
Coming off a monster five-touchdown performance against McCluer North, Griffin showed his dual threat abilities once again. He completed six of nine passes for 135 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and also rushed for a team-high 112 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.
Griffin, who projects as a running back in college, has rushed for 304 yards and seven touchdowns in three games this spring.

<strong>Tre'Von Moore, WR-CB, 5-8, 160, Class of 2021</strong>
Moore had his biggest game of the short season against the Comets and made an impact on offense, defense and special teams. He caught four passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and also recorded his first interception of the spring.
In three games this season, Moore has 13 receptions for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

<strong>Ke'Shaun Guyton, OLB, 6-1, 185, Class of 2021</strong>
A long and lean outside linebacker, Guyton recorded a career-high five tackles and added a sack in the loss. He's now had one sack in each of the three games this spring.
