Prep Redzone will release an updated list of the top Class of 2022 Maryland High School football players during the month of May. In the meantime, we will spend the next several weeks doing research on prospects. This isn’t an exact science. COVID-19 shortened the season of a lot of high school football prospects in Maryland.. Some players didn’t even get to play during their junior season. Therefore, some players did not have enough film to make this initial list. Prep Redzone Maryland is always open to hear from coaches. If you know of a Class of 2022 running backs that should be considered for this list, email us at easternparecruits@gmail.com.
Note: We will revisit this list in September after camp season is over and more research is performed.
No. 7 [player_tooltip player_id="137055" first="Daejon" last="Jones"]/5-8/200/Red Lion
Jones carried the football 43 times for 346 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. He shared carries with somebody else during the 2020-2021 season.
No. 6 [player_tooltip player_id="90600" first="Zavion" last="Woodard"]/5-8/200/New Town
Woodard’s high school team did not play during the 2020-2021 season. He ran for 1,280 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns during the 2019 season.
No. 5 [player_tooltip player_id="90522" first="Terron" last="Kellman"]/5-10/187/St. Frances
Kellman has an offer from Boston College. St. Frances has played only one game in the past year.
No. 4 [player_tooltip player_id="90603" first="Isaiah" last="West"]/6-0/205/Georgetown Prep
Williams has offers from Army and Navy.
No. 3 [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"]/5-9/205/Archbishop Carroll
Reid has offers from Umass and Temple. Archbishop Carroll played one game this spring (a 40-9 win over Bishop O’Connell).
No. 2 [player_tooltip player_id="137053" first="Rodney" last="Nelson"]/5-9/Franklin
His nickname is "The Jet". After watching his highlights, it’s easy to see why. His game speed is FAST. He carried the football 35 times for 459 yards and four touchdowns during Maryland’s spring high school football season. He’s currently under-the-radar due to not being able to play in the fall. I don’t see how colleges will not be impressed with him after watching his spring highlights. Despite not having any offers, his efforts were strong enough to land him at the No 2 spot.
No. 1 [player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"]/5-7/160/St. John’s
Curtis has offers from Marshall and Temple. He was the most impressive player out of all the running backs who played a few games in the fall or in the spring. Curtis carried the football 49 times for 539 yards (11.0 ypc) and six touchdowns in four games. He also caught five passes for 84 yards. He’s fast, explosive, and got a lot of wiggle to his game. The only thing hurting him from a recruiting standpoint is his size. Whoever lands Curtis at the next level will get a baller.
