The Good Counsel Falcons truly proved their elite program status this weekend. Upsetting the #1 team in the state 27-14, the Falcons were dominant the entire game. Their offensive line completely flustered the Panther defense, and the leadership by their freshman quarterback was beyond impressive. Good Counsel has certainly put themselves back in the running for the WCAC title.
GOOD COUNSEL 27
2021 6’4 225 LB [player_tooltip player_id="90384" first="Davis" last="Sherwood"] – Good Counsel – Notre Dame
[player_tooltip player_id="90384" first="Davis" last="Sherwood"] was a tackling machine against St. Frances. The Notre Dame commit recovered a first half fumble, which the Falcons then converted on, and he was simply a dominant force for the Falcons throughout the contest. St. Frances’ quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="90510" first="John" last="Griffith"] was constantly pressured and Sherwood was leading the charge more often than not. If [player_tooltip player_id="90384" first="Davis" last="Sherwood"] continues to be this dominant at middle linebacker then it’s going to be very difficult to put up points on Good Counsel.
2024 6’5 160 QB Frankie Weaver – Good Counsel
Frankie Weaver was far and away the best and most valuable player for either squad in this game. He was absolutely the main reason the Falcons pulled off this upset, and his dual threat capabilities were nothing but impressive. Frankie had both throwing and rushing touchdowns in this game, and he also managed to get rid of the ball extremely fast. The chemistry displayed between Frankie and Junior wide receiver Shane Carroll must be recognized too. The two were connecting for long first down gains and touchdowns like they’ve been playing together for years. The Good Counsel Falcons have an extremely bright future at the quarterback position.
2022 6’1 175 WR Shane Carroll – Good Counsel
Nobody had more yards from scrimmage in this game than Shane Carroll. Scoring the first touchdown of the day for the Falcons, Shane Carroll delivered a meaningful play every single time he was targeted and it was truly inspirational to watch. He must’ve accumulated the majority of his yards after contact as well. If you’re looking for an elite WCAC slot receiver then look no further than Shane Carroll.
ST. FRANCES 14
2022 6’3 230 LB [player_tooltip player_id="90497" first="Jaishawn" last="Barham"] – St. Frances – Maryland
The only spark of life the Panthers had in this game most certainly came from [player_tooltip player_id="90497" first="Jaishawn" last="Barham"]. He had a pick 6 early in the 3rd quarter which tied the game and shifted the momentum back towards St. Frances. Barham relentlessly pursued the Good Counsel ball carriers early in this game which caused the Falcons to become throw dependent. This then promptly lead to his second half interception but, in the end, Good Counsel was just too much to handle. Keep a keen eye on [player_tooltip player_id="90497" first="Jaishawn" last="Barham"] for the remainder of this Spring season because he will absolutely continue to standout and dominate.
2022 5’11 190 WR [player_tooltip player_id="90626" first="Andrew" last="Jacobs"] – St. Frances
St. Frances quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="90510" first="John" last="Griffith"] had a tough time getting going in this game, however, he did show flashes of greatness when targeting Junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="90626" first="Andrew" last="Jacobs"]. This quarterback-wide receiver tandem connected for multiple thirty plus yard plays, and they were also almost the reason the Panthers eliminated their deficit. Jacobs showed off his big time play making ability without a doubt. Watch out for the Panthers to put up big numbers in their next contest, especially when the ball is in the hands of [player_tooltip player_id="90626" first="Andrew" last="Jacobs"].
