For the class of 2022, the spring was key in their recruiting process and even with less games than usual and an ever-changing landscape, a few guys really stood out as we head into the summer, camp season, and the shortest offseason imaginable. Players you won’t see on this list are the guys like [player_tooltip player_id="126886" first="Zach" last="Rice"] who were highly-touted before this season.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Oscar Smith QB [player_tooltip player_id="126724" first="Ethan" last="Vasko"]</strong></span>
Vasko proved that his sophomore season wasn’t a mirage as he is leading Oscar Smith to the state title game for the second year in a row and has not thrown a pick all season. Vasko, who is 6’4" and can run like Auburn-era Cam Newton is a weapon in Smith’s offense and has been lighting it up all season in the air and on the ground as he has rushed for multiple long scores this season.
Vasko currently has offers from ODU, Fordham, Pitt, Columbia, UConn, Buffalo, Morgan State, and William and Mary but once Vasko gets in front of coaches, that number should rocket up into the high-teens or mid-twenties.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Highland Springs (Richmond) WR [player_tooltip player_id="126857" first="Quanye" last="Veney"]</strong></span>
As Highland Springs rolls into the class five final, Veney has 18 catches for around 300 yards on the shortened season. A state title could go a long way in his recruiting efforts but Veney is already at 15 offers, with more to come after camp season, which for him begins in Baltimore with the Under Armour camp.
Veney’s current offers include Howard, Wake Forest, ODU, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, UNC, Boston College, NC State, Maryland, Buffalo, Morgan State, Pitt, East Carolina, Virginia State, and Charlotte.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Tuscarora (Leesburg) RB [player_tooltip player_id="126834" first="Bryce" last="Duke"]</strong></span>
[player_tooltip player_id="126834" first="Bryce" last="Duke"] went absolutely insane this season with 18 scores in five games, six coming in a single game as Tuscarora made it to the state semis. I saw Duke multiple times last summer and every time came away impressed not only by his performance on the field but also how mature he acts off it. While Duke is a star on the field, he also holds a 3.9 GPA in the classroom.
Currently, Duke has offers from Charlotte, App State, Navy, Dartmouth, Army, Air Force, Duke, Central Michigan, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Umass, and ODU.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Liberty Christian (Lynchburg) QB [player_tooltip player_id="126723" first="Davis" last="Lane"]</strong></span>
Lane (with [player_tooltip player_id="126886" first="Zach" last="Rice"]) led Liberty Christian to the state semis and the season was a coming-out party for Lane as they won their first regional title in school history. With some great tape after this season, Lane is sure to get more offers once he hits camps this summer.
Currently, Lane has offers from Yale, Army, Navy, Penn, Utah State, Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Georgetown, Umass, and Old Dominion
While Lane is obviously gifted on the football field, he is also the state champion in the 55m.
Honorable Mention:
Green Run (Va Beach) OL [player_tooltip player_id="126897" first="Molik" last="Mason"]
Loudoun County ATH [player_tooltip player_id="126861" first="Jimmy" last="Kibble"]
One last camp season remains for the class of 2022, so it will be interesting to see how these, and other recruits in the class do this summer and who sees their stock rise and possibly fall once they get in front of college coaches.
