We’ve updated our 2022 prospect rankings with the Top 150 rising seniors in the state of New Mexico. You can check out the complete rankings RIGHT HERE. Right now, we’re taking a look and putting a spotlight on eight prospects that have made their way onto our rankings with their play on the field during the spring season.
[player_tooltip player_id="134796" first="Ramon" last="Loya"], Carlsbad: The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Loya has emerged as one of the top offensive line prospects in the state. Several prestigious schools have already expressed interest: Columbia, John Hopkins, Middlebury, University of Puget Sound, Utica College (extended invitation to visit campus), Merchant Marine Academy, Colorado School of Mines, Lincoln University and New Mexico Highlands. Boise State of the Mountain West conference has extended an invitation to Loya to attend one of their camps this summer.
[player_tooltip player_id="135135" first="Abraham" last="Lopez"], Highland: Lopez toils in near obscurity at Highland, but he’s one of the top linebackers in the state. If you follow him on Twitter you know his work ethic is extraordinary. Earned Second-Team All-State honors. Definitely a major contender for Breakout Player of the year in New Mexico.
[player_tooltip player_id="134906" first="Mikkel" last="Beltran"], Los Lunas: Beltran has the size (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) college coaches crave in a defensive end. He’s big, fast and aggressive. He keyed a Los Lunas defense that allowed just 27 points in three spring games, seven in the final two contests against Capital and Belen.
[player_tooltip player_id="134991" first="Jaden" last="Nigreville"], Clovis: Nigreville was overshadowed a bit in the spring by all the college-bound seniors on the Wildcats’ roster, including New Mexico-bound defensive end [player_tooltip player_id="26157" first="Jaden" last="Phillips"]. But Nigreville posted 34 tackles in 5 games, 5.0 tackles for loss and a team-high 6.0 sacks. His 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame gives him plenty of opportunity to grow.
[player_tooltip player_id="134997" first="Lucas" last="Coriz"], St. Michael’s: Coriz staked his claim as the No. 1 dual threat quarterback in the state by leading St. Michael’s to a 3-0 record this spring, directing a high-powered offense that scored 155 points in three games. The Horsemen are one of the favorites in Class 3A for the fall, and Coriz is a big reason why.
[player_tooltip player_id="134985" first="Tayten" last="Hilliard"], Lovington: As a sophomore in 2019, Hilliard finished well down the list of Lovington’s leading receivers, averaging just over one reception per game. That wasn’t the case this spring as he finished with 14 receptions for 274 yards and four touchdowns in 5 games. Lovington’s wide receiver corps will be scary good in 2021.
[player_tooltip player_id="134970" first="Jose" last="Montoya"], Mayfield: The Trojans should be one of the top teams in Class 5A in the fall, and the speedy 5-foot-8 Montoya is a big reason why. He averaged 9.5 yards per carry (372 yards on 39 attempts) and over 30 yards per reception in the spring. Mayfield, a proud program with numerous state titles, has most of their offensive weapons back in 2021, raising hopes for a big season.
[player_tooltip player_id="135310" first="Jonathon" last="Croker"], Valencia: The Jaguars struggled this spring, but that didn’t deter Croker, who is recognized as one of the top linemen in Class 4A. He’s also a top student with a 4.0 GPA. Schools such as RPI, Puget Sound, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Carleton College and Oberlin have expressed interest. He’ll play at the next level.
