The Players Corner: DE/OLB, Anthony Famularo Jr., Osceola High
The Players corner is a series where I get to sit down and interview prospects in the Florida. It’s a fun way to get to know some of these players outside of just evaluating them. We at Prep Redzone Florida want to bring you all-access into these players, it’s important to get to know them as individuals and what makes them great on the field! This series will give you the ability to get under the helmet and see what makes these prospects click and gives you behind the scenes coverage.
Anthony Famularo Jr. is 6’1 217lbs and one of the best up-and-coming prospects in the state of Florida. He had an outstanding season last year as a sophomore starting for the state runner up Kissimmee Osceola, he’s a big play DE/OLB that had over 10 sacks and 2 sacks in the championship game. Famularo is very technically sound, very smart (4.2 GPA) and has an explosive step off the snap, his technique is outstanding for a player his age, uses his hands extremely well to get off blocks and play with leverage, he is also a very good pass rusher with multiple rush moves and shows closing burst and back side chase speed. Famularo is one of the best all-around c/o 23 defensive prospects I’ve watched this season on film. His future is very bright!
Q. You had a nice sophomore season. What did you learn from it?
A. The game slowed down for me compared to my freshman varsity Season. I was able to read and understand different offensive plays more from watching film and bringing that knowledge to the field. Last season position and stats? DE/OLB a couple safeties I believe over 10 sacks (2 sacks in the 8A State game and a fumble recovery) 4 fumble recoveries and a bunch of pass deflections and tackles
Q. Who is your biggest role model and guide in your life?
A. Besides my parents. My coaches from youth football till now. Till this day they give me the tools I need and advice to focus and strive for greatness on and off the field.
Q. Biggest strengths in your game currently? Biggest weaknesses?
A. Strengths I would say my speed, containment, position techniques, my strength, awareness, reaction to the ball and Football IQ. I wouldn’t really call this a weakness but I am very hard on myself with small mistakes I make on the field like not getting to the ball quicker or making the right move during the play. But I consider that also determination and motivation to fix my errors as well.
Q. What colleges have looked at you in terms of interest?
A. Interested are ASU, Liberty, Duke, and Marshall.
Q. Talk about what it’s like to play for Coach Nichols?
A. It’s fun! We get along like family but we also know when it’s time to be serious. Coach Nichols not only has a great coaching method, but also teaches us life lessons on and off the field.
Q. What are your personal goals this season?
A. Obviously to be better than my previous season. I’ve been working hard training and lifting since the season finished. But to get back to the 8a State game would definitely be number 1. To better myself as a player and be ready for the next level of football in 2023
Q. How has your off-season been going and what have you been doing to build upon it for this upcoming season?
A. In December I was invited to The Show which was held at IMG. Also invited to the ESPN300 Elite Underclassman Camp Played 7v7 tournament. But I’ve been position training working on my footwork speed and technique on both DE and LB pos since the season finished. I have improved on my speed and strength from working out at school and after school each day and training Saturdays and Sunday.
Q. Favorite player to watch?
A. Favorite player would be Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald, JJ Watt, Sean Taylor and Ray Lewis
