Nothing beats Friday night film, but for prospects who were hurt or just couldn’t see the field for some reason or another, camps and combines are extremely important if they want to see their recruitment pick up.
Here are a few 2023 defensive line prospects who are bound for big junior seasons and should see their stock take off sooner than later.
Nathan Efobi – South Forsyth
Just a few weeks ago, there weren’t many who knew about the 6-foot-4 287-pounder from Cumming. He didn’t play much last season, but once he saw the field later in the season, he started to play better and batter. He’s a raw player that’s full of potential due to his overall size and athleticism. As he continues to develop his craft and improve his overall technique and fundamentals, Efobi should see. ore and more interest coming his way. He recently picked up his first big offer, and it was from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. Defensive line coach Tray Scott saw his confirmed height and weight and saw the sky-high potential that Efobi has as he’s just 15 years old. Now that the Bulldogs have jumped on board, Efobi should expect to see more big offers to come his way. He has a chance to be a breakout star on defense in 7A this fall.
Devin McRae – Telfair County
Down in Southeast Georgia is where you’ll find a true “under the radar” lineman who has yet to come close to his ceiling as a player. He played mostly on the offensive line last year as a sophomore, but he’s also one of the top young defensive line prospects in all of South Georgia. He has raw athleticism with a great frame at 6-foot-4 270-pounds who plays with a mean streak. He has long arms, shows good balance, and moves well for his size. He plays until the whistle as an offensive tackle and at times has the ability to throw around older defenders. Even as a sophomore, McRae was consistently one of the bigger, better prospects in the region. He has some early interest from Arkansas and Georgia State, but as he continues to develop, especially on the defensive line, he should see his recruitment start to really take off. McRae has a chance to be one of the top 2023 offensive or defensive line prospects in the state over the next 24 months.
Tylon Gorham – Wheeler County
Another Southeast Georgia lineman to know for the fall is the 6-foot-4 230-pounder. He still needs to add more weight and muscle, but he’s got a lot of length and has a great frame that will allow him to add a ton of weight and be able to carry it will. He’s at a place where he can play multiple positions on the defensive line, but right now he’s better suited to set the edge due to his length and raw athleticism. He’s already in the weight room as he’s squatting 425-pounds, bench-pressing 285-pounds, and power-cleaning 290-pounds. He has an 81-inch wingspan which could get him a look at offensive tackle down the road. He’s an extremely raw player with an excellent frame and a hard-working mentality. This will be a big spring for Gorham, and if he continues to work hard for the next six months, he could have a breakout junior season. He’ll likely play both ways for his small-town school, so there’s a great chance he’ll make a big impact and possibly turn into a D1 prospect.
