Receivers from all over Southern California lit it up in week three. We have players listed below as far east as Palm Desert and as far south as San Diego. Here were the top passing performances of week three. Here were the top rushing performances of week three. [player_tooltip player_id="25398" first="Makai" last="Lemon"], Los Alamitos, 2023 Los Alamitos is such a fun team to watch with two national recruits [player_tooltip player_id="25419" first="Malachi" last="Nelson"] and his top receiver Lemon. Lemon caught eight passes for nearly 200 yards with three touchdowns in a huge win for Los Alamitos against Edison to put the Griffins in the top position to win the Sunset League. He is a tremendous athlete with room to grow who can make huge plays after the catch. Lemon has offers from 14 schools including Alabama, Oklahoma and USC. https://twitter.com/Rivals/status/1371157679113175041?s=20
Jonathan Martinez, Coachella Valley, 2021 Martinez had a career game in a win over Twentynine Palms. The senior receiver caught eight passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns for Coachella Valley. He is a speedy athlete who had an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Cathedral City in week two and has established himself as the team’s best playmaker.
[player_tooltip player_id="25408" first="Mikey" last="Matthews"], Mission Viejo, 2023 In the game between Mission Viejo and Upland, Upland shifted its attention to stopping [player_tooltip player_id="25046" first="Mavin" last="Anderson"] and Matthews showed that he cannot be ignored. The sophomore caught a career-high 12 passes for 133 yards with a touchdown. He played club football this offseason with quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="25441" first="Kadin" last="Semonza"] and the pair have a great feel for each other as players. He has room to grow and was offered by Arizona State when he was in the eighth grade. https://twitter.com/SteveFryer/status/1374231770481053700?s=20
Cole Monach, San Juan Hills, 2022 San Juan Hills has two excellent junior receivers in Monach and Braden Pegan. Monach stood out in the Stallions’ shootout win over Capistrano Valley, catching seven passes for 135 yards and four touchdowns. He is 6-foot-1 but plays like a taller receiver and can make plays after the catch. He has no offers yet but I expect that to change this summer. https://twitter.com/MonachCole/status/1375872831137882112?s=20
[player_tooltip player_id="25154" first="Emari" last="Pait"], Culver City, 2021 Pait is a big receiver who got a lot of recruiting attention from Mountain West this offseason and ultimately signed with Fresno State. Utah signee [player_tooltip player_id="25071" first="Makai" last="Cope"] is not playing for Culver City this season and Pait is taking advantage of being the number one receiver. He caught six passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in Culver City’s blowout win over Redondo Union. He is the best player on the field in most games he plays in and Fresno State is getting a likely multiple year starter in him. https://twitter.com/FresnoStateFB/status/1339744691907158019?s=20
Kade Zimmerman, Irvine, 2021 After Irvine scrimmaged a local team, I asked an opposing coach what he thought of Zimmerman and he said, "a combination of Deandre Hopkins and Justin Jefferson." He was being hyperbolic but Zimmerman is a top notch route runner with good athletic ability who has a large catch radius. He caught five passes for 142 yards with two touchdowns in Irvine’s monumental win over Laguna Hills. Irvine is poised to win its first league championship in decades and its largely due to Zimmerman and the passing offense. He has an offer from Black Hills State but I expect him to get some more attention soon. https://twitter.com/MAlvarez02/status/1375667161562181640?s=20
Other top performers: Angel Almazon, Granite Hills Hunter Beddon, Kennedy [player_tooltip player_id="45038" first="Dane" last="Benedix"], Capistrano Valley Nico Brown, Edison Raymond Casillas, Orange Gibbs, Garden Grove Emmit Gossman, Brea Olinda [player_tooltip player_id="25197" first="Tommy" last="Griffin"], Corona del Mar Jack Holland, Trabuco Hills Andre McKinney Jr., Rancho Verde [player_tooltip player_id="25227" first="Tetairoa" last="McMillan"], Servite [player_tooltip player_id="35436" first="Matthew" last="Morrell"], Cypress Reymello Murphy, Santa Margarita Diego Solis, La Jolla Owen Taylor, Capistrano Valley [player_tooltip player_id="25456" first="Matayo" last="Uiagalelei"], St. John Bosco Jayden Virgin, Mt. Carmel Joshua Welles, Mission Viejo [player_tooltip player_id="25224" first="CJ" last="Williams"], Mater Dei
