That is exactly the case for Wesley Miller Wesley Miller 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Heritage Academy | 2022 State MS , a 5″11 185 pound DB from Heritage Academy in Columbus. Life for Miller has gotten a lot more hectic over the course of the last month, in which he received Power 5 offers from 4 schools, including Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
You could never tell it now, but according to Miller when he arrived at Heritage Academy in 9th grade he had absolutely zero desire to play on the defensive side of the ball. Now, though, Miller couldn’t be more thankful that he openly accepted the challenge.
The swagger that is needed mentally to play cornerback at the Power 5 level is ever present in Miller, who says hitting people hard is his favorite part of the game. Elite acceleration is matched by exceptional closing speed on the football. Easy and loose athleticism oozes from his athletic physical makeup. The Patriot secondary leader does a great job of positioning his body in coverage with arm and hand usage. Miller can jump out of the gym and even at 5″10 holds his own in one on one coverage with much taller and longer competition. The talent is still fairly raw in areas which makes him an even more exciting prospect.
A kid as humble as they come, Miller said, “I didn’t think I was going to get any offers at first.” The tale of the tape definitely says otherwise and recruiting departments across the country are starting to take notice, with many more jumping on the wagon by the day.
The long term goal for Miller is making it to play in the NFL on Sunday’s one day in the future. With an athletic and physical makeup that is still maturing he very well could be on his way to achieving those dreams.
As spring and summer camp season rolls around expect to hear Miller’s name continue to attract buzz. The upcoming senior year for Miller should see him wreak havoc on offenses in MAIS 5A District 1.
