Both teams having up and coming players mixed with FBS and Power Fiver caliber prospects make this match up a good one to start the season. Both teams have strong lines and good athletes surrounding them and will be near the top of their respective leagues. Here, we will break down some of the top players form both teams and review their film from the 2019 season.
Daniel Wheeler, Campolindo HS
Wheeler is an extremely active defensive end with a big time motor and tremendous pass rush ability. Coming off a big Junior season, he flashed a quick first step and natural bend around the edge while using active use of hands with the ability to flip his hips in tight windows and collapse the pocket quickly. He will be one of the most dominant defensive ends in all of Northern California this Spring season.
Maxwell Weaver, Campolindo HS
Currently committed to Davidson College, the Senior standout is poised for a big final season for the Cougars. On tape, he has good length and range while being a vertical threat and able to stretch the field on opponents. Using his length to high point balls and bigger body to box out defenders in the red zone, he also has good top end speed.
Elijah Klock, Campolindo HS
Klock is a two-way stand out that will anchor both sides of the line. A physical and athletic run defender, he can pull/block in space and has a good base through out his blocks while playing with a strong initial punch and finishes blocks with good physicality and toughness.
Matai Bell, Campolindo HS
On his way to play for FBS Army, Bell is one of the most dominant two-way players in all of Northern California. Having an ideal build to be an interior force at the next level, Bell is very strong at the point of attack and plays with heavy hands while sustaining blocks well and is a force on the defensive side of the ball while athletic enough to two gap and apply interior pressure in pass rush situations.
Jason Vorhauer, Campolindo HS
Vorhauer is another stand out in the trenches and is athletic for his size while playing with a high motor and can block at all three levels. Physical at the point of attack and does a good job at directing his hands to move defenders with good hand placement and pad level, he is a high IQ player that will have a big Senior season.
Les Callen, Freedom HS
Callen is poised for a breakout season for the Falcons and will be put to the test in week 1. A smart prospect with good pocket mobility and is a dual threat, Callen scans the field well while flashing a quick release and is able to throw into tight windows and proves accurate on outbreaking routes.
Tyler Lepolo, Freedom HS
Lepolo is one of the hardest hitters in all of Northern California and plays with great toughness and physicality. A versatile defender that can play both strong safety and outside linebacker, he is a good open field tackler who understands angles and displays good closing speed and lateral movement abilities while able to apply pressure off the edge. A FBS or FCS caliber prospect that currently holds a PWO offer to Washington State, Lepolo will be the leader of the Falcons defense this season.
DeNiro Killian Jr., Freedom HS
Currently committed to Rocky Mountain College, Killian is an electric playmaker with good hands and short area quickness/lateral agility in traffic. Able to make defenders miss in open space, he has a good initial burst with the ball in his hands and adjusts well in traffic while showing good body control through out the catch. He holds big play ability every time he touches the ball.
Vincent Nunley Vincent Nunley 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Freedom | 2021 State CA , Freedom HS
Committed to Washington and transferring from Bay Area Encinal, Nunley is one of the top defensive backs in the entire state in the 2021 class. A long and rangy player with outstanding ball skills and return ability, he is a good tackler in space and brings a good thump upon contact and will have a great career in the PAC-12.
Gavyn Tobin, Freedom HS
One of the best lineman across the region, Tobin is a well put together player with great strength and size. Carrying no bad weight, Tobin can block out in space and is patient in pass pro with good punch timing and lateral movement skills while able to fight against primary and secondary pass rush moves. An FBS caliber player, he will be one of the best lineman in all of Norcal this season.
Calvin SueSue, Freedom HS
A true deep threat with great length and size, SueSue will be one of the top weapons for Callen this season. Moving very well for his size and showing good foot speed and sinking his hips in and out of his breaks, he has strong hands and is a vertical threat that can stretch the field while flashing good top end speed. High upside prospect at the next level.
Caleb Hunter, Freedom HS
Another dominant force on the defensive side of the ball, Hunter plays with great leverage and heavy hands at the point of attack. Able to violently shed blockers and reset the line of scrimmage while athletic enough to two gap, he will be an anchor in the middle of the Falcon defense through out the season.
