Sometimes, you get to see some things in person about a prospect that you couldn’t see on film. Over the next several months, I’ll be evaluating prospects from all over the Northeast in person and bringing my thoughts to Prep Redzone.
Here is Vol. 2 of my live evaluations.
Keenan Nelson Jr. Ι 6-0 Ι 190 Ι Cornerback Ι St. Joe’s Prep Ι 2022
In the past year, Keenan Nelson Jr. has gotten even better as a defensive back. He’s stronger, sharper, more confident, and has that business-like approach when he’s lining up against wide receivers. Despite his status as a blue-chip recruit, it was his blue-collar approach he took while going through individual drills that should’ve inspired the other defensive backs. Nelson is a true lockdown corner that has gone up against elite competition during his whole high school career. He recently trimmed his list of schools down to ten. Notre Dame, Pitt, South Carolina, Maryland, Wisconsin, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers all made the cut for Nelson.
Alexie Sangster Jr Alexie Sangster Jr 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Freedom | 2023 State PA . Ι 6-0 Ι 180 Ι Cornerback Ι Freedom Ι 2023
During a few 1v1 reps, he was allowing wide receivers to go inside on him while in press coverage. Towards the end, he did a better job of re-routing the man to the outside and running downfield. He’s a young prospect with some length and quickness.
Kyle Williams Kyle Williams 6'3" | 265 lbs | OL Central Dauphin East | 2021 PA Ι 6-0 Ι 190 Ι Wide Receiver Ι Harrisburg Ι 2023
Williams has gotten better with his route running over the past years. He also has gotten bigger and stronger and it showed during the 1v1’s. Williams tested himself against the two best defensive backs at the event often and came up with a few wins. He’s physical at the line of scrimmage, and smaller defensive backs had problems slowing up his progress off the line. Williams consistently caught passes with his hands and displayed some separation sickness. He’s got more of a stride to him. Before you know it, he runs right by you.
Kalen Frazier Kalen Frazier 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Kennett | 2022 State PA Ι 5-11 Ι 165 Ι Wide Receiver Ι Kennett Ι 2022
Frazier was a prospect I knew little about prior to the camp. He would make a perfect slot wide receiver at the next level. He has that quickness coming off the line of scrimmage and going in and out of his breaks that you like to see in a slot. He’s a little bit on the smaller side, and will need to put some weight on and get stronger to beat press coverage by bigger defensive backs.
Colin Riley Ι 5-10 Ι 215 Ι Defensive Tackle Ι Bayard Rustin Ι 2024
There were a good amount of young linemen on both sides of the ball at the All State Preps Camp. Colin Riley looked much different when I saw him last February. Not only has he put on some weight, he’s also learned a few pass-rush moves. Last year he was a little over-matched. This year? Much different.
