Although we’re still in a recruiting “dead period” where prospects can’t meet with college coaches face to face, multiple major prospects felt good enough to finalize their recruitment and make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Here are a few peach-state standouts who made their college commitments this past week….
Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA – Georgia
One of the top overall prospects in the country, Starks is an incredible athlete at 6-foot-1 200-pounds who did a little bit of everything for the Dragons last year as a junior. The Bulldogs recruited Starks to play defense, but the Jefferson star was an impact weapon on offense last year too, rushing for over 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also threw for close to 600 yards and 11 more touchdowns. He has great size, elite ball skills, and impressive athleticism. He’s dangerous with the ball in his hands, but his natural instincts in the secondary and overall toughness made him a top safety target some some of the nation’s top college football programs. The 5-star prospect chose the Bulldogs over Clemson and Alabama.
Jacurri Brown Jacurri Brown 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Lowndes | 2022 State GA – Lowndes
One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, Brown is a promising prospect due to his speed and overall athleticism. He’s still raw as it relates to being an overall passer, but he’s a dangerous weapon who can really hurt defenses with his legs. He has a strong arm, and as he continues to develop as a passer and tune up his technique, Brown could turn into a star for the Hurricanes down the line. He’s long and athletic at 6-foot-4 and 205-pounds and he’ll only get stronger. As a junior last season, Brown passed for over 1,500 yards and threw 14 touchdowns in a limited season. He also carried the ball 189 times for 1,101 yards and 16 touchdowns. Brown led Lowndes all the way to the semi-finals of the 7A playoffs before losing to a strong Collins Hill team. Brown chose Miami over Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, among others.
Malik Spencer Malik Spencer 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Buford | 2022 State GA – Michigan State
One of the top cornerbacks in the state will be heading north to play for the Spartans. The versatile safety has good size at 6-foot-2 190-pounds and just helped lead the mighty Buford Wolves to another state championship. Spencer is one of the more physical safeties in his region and knows how to deliver a hit. He plays physical with receivers and shows natural cover skills to go along with his physicality. He does a nice job of reading the quarterback and breaking on the ball once it’s in the air. He’s a smart player and made a ton of key plays during Buford’s championship run. Look for Spencer to take on a giant leadership role for the Wolves as a senior this fall.
Denzel Moore Denzel Moore 6'2" | 220 lbs | DL Grayson | 2023 State GA – Indiana
The Hoosiers are one of the top up and coming programs in college football, and they just landed one of the peach-state’s best young defenders. The Collins Hill linebacker has his best football ahead of him and already proved he can make big plays as a young player. He has good size at 6-foot-1 215-pounds and made an early impact at Meadowcreek at the beginning of his high school career. Moore will play against some of the best offenses in the state next year and will be challenged on a weekly basis. IF he can continue to improve and consistently get after the passer, Moore will quickly rise in the 2023 rankings.
