Bring up the name (Miami) Carol City to high school football fans and the memories are endless.
The championship years under legendary Red Anderson and Walt Frazier – along with the tremendous job that the late Aubrey Hill, a proud graduate, did to bring the Chief Pride back to the community and the alumni.
Football in Miami Gardens is much more than a religion. It is perhaps the epicenter for the best athletes in the nation. Not just on the football field, but also track, basketball, baseball and even soccer.
That’s why when Carol City goes into any kind of decline, the “streets” are alive with plenty of talk and rumors – and that should subside in 2021.
While this landmark program has produced dozens and dozens of high -level college and NFL prospects throughout the years, the one thing that may have been the cause of this team going up and down is the enrollment. Once considered one of the “big boys” in south Florida, this school is now just 4A – and with charter and private schools getting their fair share of the student/athletes here in 2021, the public school decline can be felt – everywhere.
NEW ATTITUDE COULD ADD UP TO WINS
When Dorean James took over the program, he not only brought with him winning ways from Northwestern, but also a staff that understood how to get this program moving in a positive direction once again.
Coming off a 4-3 season that was cut into heavily by Covid, the Chiefs did beat Port Charlotte (32-14), Hialeah American (43-17), Miami Southridge (38-0) and Booker T. Washington (22-21). In 2021, they will have to be more consistent over the entire season in a very competitive region.
TALENT IS FOR REAL
If anything has held true throughout the years for this program is finding premier athletes has never been an issue – and it’s not one this year.
Class of 2022 defensive end Raashaun Rainey plays this game with passion and does indeed go whistle to whistle on every play. This is a pass rusher who also can stop the run inside. A talented football player who will be a huge help for this program in 2021.

Regarded as one of the top receivers in Miami-Dade County this coming season, Deandre Tamarez is a gifted talent who has been playing at a high level since his youth days. A big-time playmaker who comes to the Chiefs from Dr. Krop.

Another major addition to this program in the off-season [player_tooltip player_id="111421" first="Dominiq" last="Ponder"], a Naples transfer who has it all. Can throw, run and will utilize the impressive athletes that this program has. Carol City always has a talented quarterback who can do many things. Huge addition!

You simply cannot get enough receivers who can do it all. Clark Seay not only catches and runs, but also make a major impact as a blocker. Having athletes like this will certainly add up to some positives this coming year for a team looking for play-makers.

Another of those Class of 2022 prospects that this team will rely on heavily is Wayne Favors. This 6-1, 175-pounder is versatile enough to play corner or safety – and perform well at both positions. Has outstanding ball skills.

Making his way over from American (Hialeah) in the off-season, standout safety Norris Crawford will give opponents something to think about each week when getting ready to play the Chiefs. Watching this talented prospect perform, you have to be impressed by what he brings each week.

Watching this impressive Class of 2023 talent over the past two years, Lemme Faulk Jr. is someone who can change a game – just like that. His low 4.5 speed and knack of finding holes has made this impressive talent hard to catch and bring down. Adds a lot to this offense.

With so many veterans taking charge, getting younger players like Class of 2024 defensive lineman Jayden Harris in the mix will be something that will truly give this defense a rock over the next three years.
