At this point, we all know about the big dogs at DL instate this year. Some of them have been getting since their freshman year, others since last summer. This loaded class continues to grow as new names are being dug up in the ’Sip. Let’s take a look at a few that are set to rise through the rankings as the year continues to progress. LanSus Cole | Meridian | At 6’3" 350, LanSus Cole is a very large human anchoring the Meridian defensive line. Cole projects best as an interior player at the next level. With his size and strength, he is capable of taking on and separating from double teams. Cole has good upper body strength that allows him to be a pocket pusher in the pass rush and a dominant run defender. In addition, Cole also has a solid first step and can bend around the edge. Cole is due for a big senior year. He will gain a lot of traction on the recruiting trail due to his size alone, and he currently lists offers from Hinds and Mississippi Gulf Coast. [player_tooltip player_id="104447" first="Jeremy" last="Jackson"] | Pearl | While he isn’t the biggest, [player_tooltip player_id="104447" first="Jeremy" last="Jackson"] is an absolute wrecking machine at Pearl High. Jackson is a twitchy interior lineman with great ability to play in space. When watching his tape, he easily has some of the best mechanics in the DL class. His stack and shed technique is very well refined and he is able to get off blocks in pursuit of a ball carrier with ease. With his athleticism also comes power, as his upper body strength allows him to bowl over opposing guards and centers. As a pass rusher, Jackson uses his swim move to near perfection and blows up the quarterback any chance he gets. There is no quit in Jackson’s game either. He is constantly on the move. Give him a few extra inches and he would have every D1 offer in the southeast. [player_tooltip player_id="104447" first="Jeremy" last="Jackson"] is going to be a steal for a program. He currently lists Alcorn State as his only offer. [player_tooltip player_id="104444" first="Kam" last="Williams"] | D’Iberville | A bit of a tweener, [player_tooltip player_id="104444" first="Kam" last="Williams"] has the body type to continue playing defensive line or to switch over to a jumbo outside linebacker. Williams has solid initial quickness off the ball, but knows how to use his hands to make plays. Williams has a great swim move to get by offensive linemen and uses his length to jar the ball loose frequently. He also has solid upper body strength and can defeat blocks using power as well. As a pass rusher, Williams is best in a 5 tech and when he is allowed to strictly chase down the quarterback. Using his arm length, he is disruptive in passing lanes and can force some pass break ups on his own. In addition, Williams has good hustle and will chase down the ball carrier when the play is away from him. Currently listing an offer from Hinds, things are just getting started for the hybrid pass rusher. Kalvin Dinkins | Lake | The 6’3" 310 lineman from small town Lake is one of the newest names discovered. After missing out on him in our initial rankings, Dinkins was an exciting discovery. The big defender plays in a smaller league in Mississippi and dominates on both sides of the ball. On defense, Dinkins is a natural inside guy who best uses his strength to separate from defenders and stop the run. He has a good first step and is capable of running sideline to sideline. Dinkins carries little bad weight on him. His strength is by far his best part of his game, and it shows extremely well with his bull rush move and on offense when he lines up at fullback and tight end. So far, Dinkins has collected offers from Tulane and Southern Mississippi. This is the type of guy with blow up capability due to his natural power at the position.
