Specifically, they finished the season 5-6, with an overall region record of 0-3. Going into this season, many fans are hesitant to say that they will be a top team in their region, or conference, but we are bold enough to predict that they will experience more success in their 2021 season than they did in 2020. While the may have plenty of key players that have gone on to the next level, or who they lost due to graduation, the team will hope to reload with some of its talent next season. In doing so, they will hope to see some of their current players, and rising players, step up to the plate, and to become some of their top performers. Below, we have listed a few of the prospects on Houston County’s roster that could rise to the occasion next year.
Nick Jordan- MLB
Jordan, who has a bit of a thinner frame for a LB, does a good job of constantly swarming around the football. Along with this, he has a great burst and speed that allows for him to get around the edge well, and to make tackles in pursuit, and in the backfield. His willingness to play the run, and to fly around the field makes him a big time player for the Bears, and contributes to the pressure they want to continuously put on opposing offenses. While he may run straight up at times, this can be seen to be a bit deceiving due to the fact that some of his movement skills reveal that he can bend and sink okay when changing direction. Regardless, his ball skills and ability to understand the game at a fast pace is what sets him apart, and will certainly be the factor that helps him to succeed next season.
Arthur Lee Brown- CB
Even though Brown was only a Sophomore last year, we predict that he will be another key player for the Bears next season. When evaluating his tape, there are some traits that stand out when he is playing the CB position. To start, not only does he have ball skills, but he has a bit of burst and twitch to his movement skills, which allows him to be able to change direction well, and to shake opposing players if he has the ball in his hands. With this, he does a decent job of bending, and proves to be unafraid of contact. Not only does he stick his nose in tackles, but he has a bit of pop when he makes contact as well. In coverage, Brown does a good job of staying in the hip pocket of receivers, and also shadows movement effectively, and can be seen to be able to mirror receivers as he flips his hips and does not allow too much separation. Going into next season, we would like to see him add more size to his frame, but overall, we expect him to make a jump in his overall ability to play the CB position.
Jaylen Ware- RB
Last year, Ware was a Junior, and managed to gain more experience as the year went by, even if some of it was at the JV level of play. While he is a bit smaller, his quickness and feet allow him to make good pick ups, allows him to turn the corner very well at times. While we are not sold on his overall speed, we do feel that he is a good back in short yardage situations due to his ability to change direction, stick his foot in the ground, and use his jump cut to his ability. Along with this, his ability to read the defense and adjust at the line of scrimmage also contributes to his success and will likely help him next season as well.
Antwann Hill Jr- QB
Hill, who is a rising Freshman, has already raised some eyebrows throughout the state of Georgia, and has gained the attention of plenty of coaches and recruiters as well. Because of this, he has already received an offer from UGA. This is no mistake due to the fact that there is a ton to digest when it comes to his overall ability. First and foremost, his pocket presence is very good for his age, and he stands strong under pressure, and knows how to navigate it when the pressure is swarming around him. Along with this, when he throws, he throws from a good base, and squares his shoulders well, and keeps his upper body loose, but strong at the point of release. When he releases the ball, he does a good job of getting it out quickly, and is able to put a good touch on each of his passes, regardless of the kind of throw, or level of the field in which it has to be delivered. Along with this, he makes various kinds of throws well, including more advanced passes that require solid ball placement, and good timing. This includes comebacks, and fade routes. Hill also has decent footwork, and the fact that he can throw across body if needed can be seen as a strength, but can be a weakness at times when he may make ill advised throws. Overall, there is a ton to look forward to with Hill, and in the coming years, we will see if Houston County has found their next star QB.
