Under new head coach Troy Morris, the War Eagles will be breaking in a new quarterback but have plenty of experience coming back on defense. In a very talented region, the War Eagles could raise some eyebrows this fall if their young talent continues to improve this spring.
The War Eagles are returning the Region 6-7A Athlete of the Year in LB/RB Gavin Morris, one of the more underrated players across the state. The 6-foot-1 210-pounder is a hard-working playmaker who knows the game inside and out. He’s a leader in the locker room, and he backs it up with his play on the field. He’s a physical, instinctive defender as a linebacker, but is dangerous on offense with the ball in his hands. He’s been overlooked for far too long, and he’ll have a chance to lead the War Eagles to a big season as a senior.
I think 2022 ATH Gavin Morris is one of the more underrated player in the state.
6’1 210-pounds. Plays RB and LB. Will likely play song strong safety this fall.

A breakout player to keep an eye on for South Forsyth is 2023 defensive lineman Nathan Efobi. Only 15 years old, the under-the-radar athlete is a whopping 6-foot-4 287-pounds and will start on both the defensive line and on offense at right tackle. He has an 80.5-inch wingspan and already looks like a D1 player. He played more and more as the season went on last year, but he’ll be expected to have a big impact this fall as a junior. Once he gets some tape out there, Efobi should see plenty of attention coming his way. He’s already squatting 500-pounds and has his best football ahead of him. Look for him to be a breakout player in the region this year.
A 2023 DL to know at South Forsyth (GA) is Nathan Efobi.
6’3.5 and 287-pounds. 80.5-inch wingspan.
Will play both RT and DE for the War Eagles this season.
Might pull off a 500-pound squat today.
Definitely a player who could have a breakout year… pic.twitter.com/pN1rYkv1l0

The War Eagles will be breaking in a new quarterback this year and it’s someone the staff is very excited about. That would be 6-foot-2 210-pound Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA . The big pocket passer is working hard on his speed and ability to hurt defenses with his legs, but he should have no problem slinging the ball downfield in South Forsyth’s pass-happy offense. He’ll have Gavin Morris to help him out on offense, and he’ll have 6-foot-3 Mason Capers to throw to as well at tight end. The War Eagles also have a couple of speed-demons to give them a down-field threat in twins Chris and Josh Nelson. The 2023 track stars will have the chance to play both WR and DB this fall, but both have big-play ability on offense. The weapons are there for Watkins to have a big year, and the young gunslinger is working hard this spring to get himself ready for his all-important junior season.
Overall, the War Eagles will bring back plenty of experience on defense and have some linebacker depth that might surprise some people. They have a future star in the making with Efobi on the edge, and they have speed in the secondary as well. Offensively, they’ll be able to put up points and should feed Morris the ball as much as they can, but it shouldn’t surprise folks if Watkins starts to make a name for himself at quarterback in the 2023 class.
This is a team with plenty of talent. They have a hungry quarterback, an experienced defense, and a future D1 edge defender in the making. Don’t look past the South Forsyth War Eagles in 2021.
