There was no shortage of Eight-Man backs from the 2023 class who had impactful sophomore seasons. Here is a look at five such talented ball carriers.
Tayden Tindle Tayden Tindle 5'7" | 130 lbs | RB West Elk | 2023 KS , 5’8”, 140, West Elk – Tindle unofficially lead all Eight-Man running backs from the class of 2023 in rushing yards. The Patriot back rushed for 1,035 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in his sophomore season. He has good speed, hits the hole quickly, and will look to improve his numbers during his junior season.
Dylan Bice Dylan Bice 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Thunder Ridge | 2023 State KS , 6’3”, 190, Thunder Ridge – Bice is a multi-skilled football player for the Longhorns. He can play quarterback, running back, and defensive back. He finished the 2020 season with 973 yards rushing and 1,300-plus yards passing. He completed 15 passing touchdowns and rushed for 14 more. It will be interesting to see how he evolves as an athlete. Will he get bigger, stronger, faster, or a combination of all three? He is one of the best athletes in his class from the eight-man ranks.
Jake Hutchinson, 5’9”, 175, Oswego – Hutchinson rushed for 913 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Oswego Indians. There will be plenty of Southeast Kansas watching his film closely when it comes time for recruitment. He has a compact frame and likes to hit run people over.
Ryan Kuckelman Ryan Kuckelman 6'3" | 170 lbs | ATH Macksville | 2023 State KS , 6’3”, 170, Macksville – Macksville has a young quarterback to watch over the next two seasons. Kuckelman rushed for 710 yards and 19 touchdowns over the course of his sophomore season. He also finished with 696 passing yards and almost competed 50 percent of his pass attempts. He has time to improve his game and prove to college scouts that he can lead an offense at the next level.
Mason Pfaff, 5’10”, 135, Minneola – Pfaff rushed for 653 yards and 13 touchdowns in a shortened season for the Wildcats. He will need to add some bulk and gain some experience as a primary offensive weapon in 2021 and beyond. He is a threat in the passing game as well as he had two touchdown receptions in his sophomore campaign.
