Continue ReadingIt was a star-studded event this past weekend as prospects from all over the country made their way to Alpharetta, Georgia for the always-important Under Armour Camp. Some of the nation’s top prospects tried to earn an invitation to play in the 2022 Under Armour game next month, and there were plenty of peach-state prospects who proved to be some of the best in the country.
The defensive line group was the best unit at the camp, and of course it was led by some of the best from Georgia. Here are a few peach-state standouts on the defensive line who impressed over the weekend.
Mykel Williams Mykel Williams 6'5" | 255 lbs | DL Hardaway | 2022 State GA :
5-star Walter Nolen was the biggest name in attendance, but since he’s not from the peach-state, he won’t be included. Another highly-ranked prospect who impressed was Mykel Williams Mykel Williams 6'5" | 255 lbs | DL Hardaway | 2022 State GA from Hardaway High School. The 6-foot-5 256-pounder was fluid through drills and showed excellent footwork as he went through the bags. He’s long, showed his athleticism, and displayed his quickness and burst during the 1-on-1s. His length and quickness allowed him to win every rep that Prep Redzone saw. Williams is one of the top-ranked players in the state and is down to five schools including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Southern Cal, Kentucky, and LSU. Williams recorded 69 tackles, 19 TFLs, 27 QB hurries, 3 forced fumbles, and a staggering 17 sacks in just 11 games last fall.

Tyre West Tyre West 6'3" | 280 lbs | DL Tift County | 2022 State GA :
Another standout during the Under Armour camp was UGA commit Tyre West Tyre West 6'3" | 280 lbs | DL Tift County | 2022 State GA of Tift County. The South Georgia star has put on plenty of muscle over the last few months and still brought his quickness and burst to the camp setting. He may not be as long and athletic as others in the group, but West proved to be technically and fundamentally sound. He uses his hands to get off blocks and held his own during 1-on-1s. He impressed with his footwork and moved really well laterally during bag work. He showed good footwork for someone his size and gave a solid performance overall.

Leebeus Overton
The hype for the Milton pass-rusher is at an all-time high and he more than lived up to the hype this weekend. He looks great physically at 6-foot-4 265-pounds, but you’d never know it by watching him play. He moves so well for his size and is so explosive off the ball. He’s big enough to win 1-on-1 battles with strength alone, but his quickness and burst off the line is something most opposing tackles just can’t handle. Overton looked like one of the top overall players on the field, making it easy to see why he’s ranked as one of the top 2023 prospects in the country. Overton led the state in sacks last year, and did it as a sophomore. He’s still growing as a player and has the frame to keep adding muscle in his upper body. As good as he already is, Overton’s potential is sky high and he has his best football ahead of him.
2023 DL Lebbeus “LT” Overton of Milton (GA) has been excellent so far. Proving why he’s one of the nation’s best. @LebbeusO @MiltonEagles_FB pic.twitter.com/ud1YYyVicP

Hevin Brown-Shuler:
If you’re looking for a future 5-star DL in Georgia, Brown-Shuler might be your guy. The state looks deep already in the 2024 class and Brown-Shuler is one of the best. He fit right in with all the upperclassmen in the camp and you’d never know he was only a high school freshman by watching him play. The Pace Academy (GA) standout has great size already at 6-foot-5 250-pounds who was as good during drill work as any defensive line there. He’s very technical for someone his age, and that’s a scary thing. He looks like he could be part of the 2022 class already, but he’ll likely grow into a possible 5-star prospect in his class by the way he played last year and how he performed in front of everyone at the Under Armour Camp. If you could buy stock into a player, Brown-Shuler’s stock is an easy buy.
