It was a talented group, and as always, the peach-state represented well in the defensive back group. It’s a young group, but the camp showcased some of the top overall defensive back talent across the South.
Here are a few top-performing defensive backs from the state of Georgia from this past weekend’s Atlanta Under Armour Camp.
Kayin Lee Kayin Lee 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Cedar Grove | 2023 State GA – Cedar Grove
Another camp, another award for the Atlanta native. The highly-impressive 2023 cornerback took home Defensive Back MVP honors after showcasing his natural cover skills and in 1-on-1s. He’s always tough to create separation on and knows how to make a play on the ball when needed. He’s a fluid runner, technically sounds, and knows how to turn his hips and stay with a speedy defender. He’s a true playmaker and someone who can work on an island on the outside. He’s young, and he’s a little on the lighter side, but Lee knows how to lock down a defender. Look for Lee to continue to rise in the 2023 rankings moving forward.
Emory Floyd Emory Floyd 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Hillgrove | 2022 State GA – Hillgrove
One of the state’s top 2022 defensive backs, Floyd is a track star who put his speed on display with an outstanding 4.45 run in the 40-yard dash. Not only is he fast, but he has a long frame with the ability to put on some good muscle while not losing his speed. Not many receivers are going to out-run him, and we’re starting to see Floyd really come into his own as a true defensive back. He showed good instincts and closes well on receivers when the ball is in the air. He stood out all day, making it easy why he holds offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, among others.
AJ Harris AJ Harris 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Brookstone | 2022 AL – Glenwood
Harris might play in Alabama right now, but he’s a Columbus native in West Georgia. He’s a peach-state kid and he’ll be one of the best in 2023. He’s got a great frame at 6-foot-2 180-pounds and is incredibly smooth in drills. He runs well for his size and changes direction well. He has the length and toughness to play on the outside and hold his own against big receivers. He looks like a D1 prospect already and will only get bigger and stronger over the next two years. He stood out easily in a very talented defensive back group and he should see more offers start to come his way. Right now, Harris holds offers from Georgia and Arizona State.
Michael Daugherty Michael Daugherty 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grayson | 2023 State GA – Grayson
After an impressive sophomore season for the state-champion Rams, Daugherty continues to improve and proved once again why he’s one of the top 2023 DB prospects in the country. He was named a top performer at the event and was invited to the Future 50 game which includes some of the top 2023 players in the country. Daugherty has great footwork, an impressive backpedal, and knows how to dissect a route and make a play on the ball. He has length, athleticism, and natural cover skills. He could push to be the state’s best DB in the 2023 class down the road.
