Here is a look at five kickers from the Class 3A ranks that scored well in 2020.
Matthew Lierz Matthew Lierz 6'0" | 190 lbs | DB Holton | 2023 State KS 5’11”, 190, Holton – Lierz, just a sophomore, had a solid kicking season for the Holton Wildcats. He was four of five in field-goal attempts. He finished with 51 points as he was successful on 39 of his 45 PAT attempts. Lierz also saw a few snaps behind center for the Wildcats in 2020.
Easton Atwood, 5’11”, 170, Concordia – Attwood kicked a 40-yard field goal in 2020 and finished with 35 total kicking points. The Panther senior was successful on 29 of 33 PAT attempts. He also played safety for Concordia. Atwood has committed to Kansas Wesleyan University.
Edgar Ramirez, 5’10”, 175, Holcomb – Ramirez was the kicker for the Longhorns during his senior year. He was successful on 28 of 32 PAT attempts and converted on his only field-goal attempt, a 22-yarder against Southwestern Heights. Ramirez finished his senior season with 14 receptions for 310 yards and one touchdown.
Blake Buessing, 5’6”, 160, Santa Fe Trail – Buessing, has a solid junior season for the Santa Fe Trail Chargers. He was a perfect 4-for-4 in field goal attempts. His longest of the season was a 37-yard boot against Holton. Buessing was successful on 19 of 22 PAT attempts. He was also among the Chargers leading tacklers with 62.
Fernando Herrera, 6’0”, 165, Larned – Out west Larned’s Herrera was successful on 23 of 25 PAT attempts but missed his lone field goal attempt. He also punted for the Indians and finished with 21 receptions for 292 yards and two touchdowns.
