Going into next season, while they did lose some of their key players, the Trojans will look to shock plenty of Georgia High School football fans yet again, with their depth of talent, and high ceiling. Likely, their expectations will surpass that of their 8-3 record last season, as well as their overall 6-1 record in their region. They will expect much more, including that of a possible state championship. Regardless of how this goes for them in the 2021 season, we do expect Carrollton to return to its promising status next season, especially with the support of their top returning players. Below, we have listed a few of these prospects for you to begin to get familiar with.
Jordan Cardentey- DT
Cardentey, who is a 2024 prospect, has already shown plenty of upside for a player his age. Not only does he have some good weight to him, but he moves very well for a kid his size. Off of the line, he shows explosive ability, and proves that he can not only push the pocket, but that he can move around well with fluid hips in order to pressure the passer. With this, he is also unafraid of contact, and uses his hands well to get off of blocks. His length is a positive factor to his game as well, as he is able to latch hold of ball carriers well in pursuit, even when he is pursuing them from awkward angles. Going into next season, expect him to add more weight to his frame, and for him to further develop in size and length. This will undoubtedly raise his recruiting stock, so also expect him to slowly collect offers as well.
Jake Herrera- QB
Herrera, a 2023 prospect, is expected to take the reigns for the Trojans at the QB position next season. He will be filling big shoes, as he will be replacing previous QB, James McCauley. Nevertheless, we wanted to take some time to evaluate him and to break down his film. While he is a bit of a smaller and thinner prospect, it is due to his age. Not only does he prove to be mobile, but he shows that he has a quick release and can get the ball out accurately, and on target to his receivers in short yardage situations. Don’t let this fool you though because he can unwind and throw deeper passes as needed too. Due to the fact that he gets out of the pocket for plenty of passes due to his size and the way his mobility opens up the game for his team, expect him to do so next season as well. With this, Herrera also has a bit of athleticism to him as well, as his burst and speed allow him to gain positive yards, and keeps the defense on it’s toes. Next season, it will be interesting to see how he is used, but look for him to have a big first year on varsity.
Bryce Hicks- RB
Hicks, another 2024 prospect on this list, has also already shown flashes of his potential value to the Trojans future team. He has a bit of a shifty, and slasher RB style, and has proven to be able to change direction quickly with clean footwork, ultimately putting him in place to gain a ton of yards. While he is a bit tight hipped at times, and can be seen as a high runner, we do like his ability to cut it up field, and to run through contact. His short area quickness is what proves to be a strength in his game, and we also like his ability to pick up blocks and do whatever is necessary for his team to win. Moving forward, we would like to see him add more weight to his frame, as well as improve in his ability to read the defense and react quicker upon his vision at the line. If he can manage to do so, we certainly feel that his value can continue to sky rocket, and that he can be a big time player for the Trojans in the coming year.
Takare Lipscomb- WR
Last year, as a sophomore, Lipscomb showed that he has the ability to be a key play-maker for the Trojans moving forward. He not only has the burst off of the line, but he does a good job of avoiding false steps and wasted movement. When running routes, he does a good job of stacking defenders, and he also shows that his footwork is solid enough to help him to gain separation as well. Overall, his quickness helps him to be a solid route runner, and his strong hands, and ability to track the ball and catch it from various angles helps him to generate a ton of success for himself and his team. With all of this, it is also evident that Lipscomb has a ton of ability after the catch, and that his speed makes it hard for defenders to catch him. Next season, if he and Herrera find ways to make good connections, expect them to be a big time WR/ QB duo for the Trojans.
