Prep Redzone looks at the current prospect rankings for New Maryland’s 2023 recruiting class. Maryland was one state that postponed high school football until the spring. There are teams that could play a few games during the fall before having their season ended. Other schools did not play during the fall and are playing now.
Based on some research, I believe you’ll see some changes after the next rankings update by Prep Redzone. For now, let’s look at where things stand in the 2023 Maryland Football Prospect Rankings.
Today we look at Maryland’s top 2023 players from No. 20 to No. 11.
No. 20 [player_tooltip player_id="90660" first="KP" last="Price"] Ι 6-2 Ι 175 Ι Defensive Back Ι Calvert Hall
Is he going to be a safety or a cornerback at the next level? At 6-2, 175 pounds, he’s an intriguing cornerback prospect with his length. Price also has the range to play safety too. He’s a versatile defensive back that should continue to gain more interest from colleges. Calvert Hall could only play a few games before they cut the season short because of COVID-19.
No. 19 [player_tooltip player_id="90659" first="Gerald" last="Campbell"] Ι 6-1 Ι 175 Ι Defensive Back (not enough film)
No. 18 [player_tooltip player_id="90658" first="Carter" last="Davis"] Ι 6-1 Ι 170 Ι Defensive Back (not enough film)
No. 17 [player_tooltip player_id="90657" first="Elijah" last="Yarbrough"] Ι 6-3 Ι 275 Ι Defensive Line Ι DeMatha
We based a lot of this on potential, and we’re giving Yarbrough the benefit of the doubt. He doesn’t have any sophomore year season highlights posted yet. His only highlights are from his freshman year when he played on the JV level. I’m looking forward to seeing how much progress he’s made in the past year-and-a-half. He’s going to be a tremendous force in the middle for DeMatha when his time comes.
No. 16 Tawfig Byard Ι 6-0 Ι 180 Ι Defensive Back Ι DeMatha
Byard is going to be a strong safety prospect for DeMatha in the next couple of years. He plays close to the line of scrimmage and is strong against the run. Byard is part of a talented DeMatha secondary.
No. 15 [player_tooltip player_id="90655" first="Mitchell" last="Garner"] Ι 6-2 Ι 190 Ι Defensive Back Ι DeMatha
Yes, another DeMatha defensive back. He’s also a safety prospect.
No. 14 [player_tooltip player_id="90654" first="Carson" last="Petitbon"] Ι Quarterback Ι Gonzaga (not enough film)
No. 13 [player_tooltip player_id="90653" first="Ayo" last="Meyers"] Ι 6-2 Ι 250 Ι Defensive Line Ι St. Frances (not enough film)
No. 12 [player_tooltip player_id="90652" first="Mason" last="Robinson"] Ι 6-4 Ι 225 Ι Defensive Line Ι McDonogh
Robinson holds down the defensive end position for McDonogh. Boston College offered him back on March 3. That could end up being the jumpstart of his recruitment.
No. 11 [player_tooltip player_id="90651" first="Brandon" last="Smith"] Ι 6-2 Ι 270 Ι Offensive Line Ι DeMatha
We’re waiting on sophomore season film for Smith. He’s a strong candidate to be switched over to the defensive line side of things for our rankings.
