2022 Rankings: Top Newcomer at Each Position
In this article:
To go along with updating the rankings of the players in the initial rankings, we also added over 220 new names. In those 220+ names there is a ton of talent that college coaches are going to want to check out! Today, I want to take a look at all those new additions and identify the highest debuting player at each of our position groups. For each of the players I will breakdown what it was in there film that earned them their addition into the rankings. If you haven’t checked out the rankings yet, I highly recommend you do. If you have, then let’s dive in and see what these new members of the rankings have to offer!
Ashton Beers Ashton Beers 6'6" | 295 lbs | OL Slinger | 2022 State WI , OL- Slinger
Ashton joins the rankings as not only one of the best offensive linemen in the state, but as one of the best overall players in Wisconsin. The 6’6″ 295 lbs OT looks every bit the part of a Division 1 recruit on tape and his recruitment has started to reflect it. The film is off the charts for Ashton. His body control and athleticism are wild for a kid his age and his size. He moves with ease and his power to drive defensive linemen and LBs out of the area code is almost unfair. Ashton uses his elite length to get control of defenders quickly and once he makes contact you can consider that defender out of the picture for that play. In pass protection, Beers again uses that length and his reactive athleticism to make himself impossible to get around. There is no doubt that Beers is a Top 15 player in this class and I fully expect to see him go D1 with a good chance of it being to an FBS team.
Martell Owens Martell Owens 6'2" | 285 lbs | DL La Crosse Logan | 2022 State WI , DL- La Crosse Logan
Martell one of the players on this list who have been able to make a high debut in the rankings despite not playing his junior season, yet. Once you go through his sophomore cutups and see the burst/quickness and strength/athleticism combinations of the 6’2″ 280 lbs defensive lineman it is easy to understand why he deserves his position in the Top 20. It also helps that I was able to watch him live at the Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase in December. Owens was a beast at the Showcase. When it came to the one on one battles he proved to be the most difficult defender to block for the offensive line group. A group that contained D1 level players. I believe Martell is going to go off this spring and become a hot name in the recruiting cycle.
Greyton Gannon Greyton Gannon 6'4" | 205 lbs | ATH Mukwonago | 2022 State WI , QB- Mukwonago
Greyton is not only one the highest debuting QB in the updated rankings, he is our second best QB overall. There is a ton of talent to work with here in the 6’4″ 200 lbs Mukwonago product. I was able to catch Gannon live this past fall and I came away very impressed and with a big note to make sure I added him to the rankings. Gannon offers an impressive combination of old school QB traits and dual threat ability. While in the pocket, Greyton can carve up defenses with accurate passes to any level of the field and he has the arm strength to hit any window before it slams shut. Gannon also plays with a very good level of touch on his passes. He understands that not every ball has to be thrown as hard as he can. When he gets outside the pocket, Gannon can still attack down the field with his arm or when he tucks it he has the ability to pick up big chunks of yardage. Once he gets past the front seven, Greyton is a load to bring down. I expect Gannon to be a highly sought after prospect from several levels of competition.
Reid Jamerson Reid Jamerson 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Whitefish Bay | 2022 State WI , LB- Whitefish Bay
Our highest ranked new face at the LB position comes from Whitefish Bay. I got my first good look at Reid during one of my Film Analysis articles and I came away very impressed. Reid is a very versatile DE/LB prospect. He primarily rushes off the edge and does so with strong technique that is emphasized thanks to his next level first step quickness and burst at the snap. His bend to get underneath OTs and make himself a hard target to block is fun to watch and will allow him to be an impactful edge rusher at the next level if they want to use him in that spot. Jamerson also offers the versatility and experience to play all along the defensive line as well. He doesn’t have the size to play inside against the run, but in pass rush situations he could make an impact from anywhere on the defensive front. Reid is going to a very useful chess piece for a DC at the next level.
Brent Jeske Brent Jeske 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH Colby | 2022 State WI , ATH- Colby
Brent makes his debut as the #1 ATH in the rankings for us. After going through his junior film it became very clear that he was the best Swiss Army Knife that Wisconsin has to offer in the class of 2022. At 6’2″ 210 lbs, Jeske has the ability to do a lot of different things for a team at the next level. On offense, Brent could make an impact as an RB thanks to his play speed, power to run through defenders, and his contact balance. Those physical traits paired with his vision could make him a starting RB. On defense he offers the skill set to be a three down LB. His ability to slice through defensive fronts, get off blocks, and pursue sideline to sideline with ease to stop the run is some of the best I have seen in Wisconsin. Where he sets himself further apart is that he looks so comfortable out in space. He has no issue lining up on a slot receiver at the high school level. Jeske is going to be a chess piece for a team that can fill a variety of roles.
Noah Feddersen Noah Feddersen 6'9" | 225 lbs | TE Menomonie | 2022 State WI , TE- Menomonie
Welcome the tallest member of the 2022 rankings! Coming in at 6’9″ 220 lbs, Noah is the epitome of a redzone threat. His ability to use his immense size and his ability to box out defenders makes him unguardable in the redzone. He can thank his impressive basketball career for that ability. I am a big fan of how Noah uses that ability to use his size all over the field to create separation for his QB as well. It isn’t just in jump ball situations. In all his routes, Noah knows how to use that length to keep defenders far away from the catch point. Noah is going to be a player that could play a couple different sports at the next level, so he is going to be one to keep an eye on. When it comes to his football ability, I believe he can play at the D1 level.
Jackson Schooley Jackson Schooley 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Wisconsin Rapids | 2022 State WI , DB- Wisconsin Rapids
Jackson is one of the biggest surprises during this past rankings update. He has made his debut as one of the best DB prospects in the state and a Top 50 overall player in his class. Jackson is going to be a must have prospect in the defensive backfield. He has excellent size at 6’1″ 190 lbs that he pairs with the range to make plays anywhere on the field. That size and speed allows him to pack a punch when he makes tackles. In coverage, Jackson is an impressive deep half safety. He has the skills to read the QB’s eyes and react quickly making it so he is always in the right place at the right time. His half of the field is a no fly zone when he is back there patrolling. There should be a long list of schools interested in his services.
Daeshon Benson Daeshon Benson 6'6" | 220 lbs | WR Hamilton | 2022 State WI , WR- Hamilton High
Daeshon is another player on this list making a very high debut while not having played his junior season, yet. What that has done for me is really peak my interest in him because what he showed as a sophomore has led the 6’5″ 210 lbs WR to debut inside the Top 60 overall players. He is only going to go up from there it looks like. When you go through the sophomore film you already see the makings of a very complete game. He has the speed to stretch the field and take the top off the defense. He has the size to be able to use it to create separation. He has the soft hands, but also strong hands to make catches in traffic. As his body control continues to develop and he continues to develop the nuances in his route running Daeshon is going to consistently climb these rankings and be a player that schools at the D1 level are going to be interested in.
Ty Strehlow Ty Strehlow 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH D.C. Everest | 2022 State WI , RB- D.C. Everest
Strehlow makes his debut in our 2022 rankings as a Top 3 RB and a Top 75 overall player. After watching through his film, I am very intrigued to follow along with his recruitment because I think he could play at any level he wants to. His posts on twitter have shown that as well as he has received interest from D1 and D2 programs. It isn’t surprising as the 6′ 190 lbs RB has a lot to offer. Ty is a three down back. He can handle a big workload, can run successfully inside and outside, and he is a natural pass catcher out of the backfield. When he runs between the tackles he plays with the power to break tackles and push the pile and hen he gets out in space this kid can fly. The versatility in his game is going to make him a highly ranked recruit for a lot of schools.
Gavin Lahm Gavin Lahm 6'0" | 200 lbs | K Kaukauna | 2022 State WI , K- Kaukauna
We wrap up our Top Newcomers with a look at the kickers and punters. Gavin comes in as not only our highest debuting kicker, but our #1 kicker overall for the 2022 class. The kid has an absolute BOOT of a right leg. The ball explodes off his foot and carries that velocity throughout the entire time the ball is in the air. That gives Gavin the ability to hit field goals from distances that you see on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The First Team All- Region has an in-game record of 50 yards and his reported PR from practice is 63 yards! If you are in the market for a 2022 kicker then Kaukauna HS should be your first stop.
