Butler Community College made a nice splash during the recruiting season. They’re known for getting quality talent throughout the state, and they didn’t disappoint this year. Twenty-one signees from our Class of 2021 Player Rankings are ready to make an impact for the Grizzlies this fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="35425" first="Daylan" last="Jones"] – Wichita East, 6’4”, 205, ATH
Jones is a very versatile athlete that can be a mismatch nightmare for defenses. He can make plays at receiver or tight-end. I would expect for Jones to be used in multiple ways for Butler.
[player_tooltip player_id="35450" first="George" last="Traglia"] – Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 6’4”, 245, DL
Traglia was a menace off the edge his senior year. He racked up 10 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, and one interception and one forced fumble. Look for Traglia to make some noise on the Grizzlies’ defensive-line this fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="49685" first="Elias" last="Carson"] – St. Thomas Aquinas, 6’0”, 185, DB
Carson will be a play-maker in the secondary for the Grizzlies. The 5A All-State defensive-back shows good awareness in zone-coverage, and can quickly break on passes.
[player_tooltip player_id="49693" first="Ethan" last="Stuhlsatz"] – Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 6’4”, 205, DB
Stuhlsatz will be joining his fellow Crusader teammate on Butler’s defense. He played safety his senior year and earned 5A All-State honors as a defensive-back, but he will be switching to outside-linebacker at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="49715" first="Taylor" last="Martin"] – Larned, 6’5”, 300, OL
Butler added some major beef to the interior of their offensive-line with Martin. He has next level strength, and he shows clean footwork for his size.
[player_tooltip player_id="35516" first="Zach" last="Wittenberg"] – El Dorado, 6’3”, 210, ATH
Wittenberg chose to stay home in El Dorado and play for his home town Grizzlies. He had a solid senior campaign on both sides of the ball, but he will be playing linebacker for Butler.
[player_tooltip player_id="29781" first="Brandon" last="Martin"] – Tonganoxie, 6’2”, 200, LB
Martin could potentially be a key piece to Butler’s defense in 2021. He amassed more than 500 total tackles during his career, and he was named the 2020 Bobby Bell Award winner for the best linebacker in the Kansas City area.
[player_tooltip player_id="49752" first="Matthew" last="Glen"] – Salina Central, 6’3”, 310, OL
Glen provides even more beef upfront for Butler’s offensive-line. He will be responsible for defending the edge at tackle. Glen shows good technique in pass protection, and he has the athleticism to pull and get up field in the run game.
[player_tooltip player_id="49695" first="Peyton" last="Wiechman"] – Maize South, 6’3”, 285, DL
With his massive frame and strength; Wiechman will look to clog holes and get after the quarterback for the Grizzlies. His play this past season earned him a 5A All-State Honorable Mention nod.
[player_tooltip player_id="100983" first="AJ" last="King"] – Wichita East, 5’9”, 165, WR
King showed how dynamic of a player he is during his senior year. He can return kicks on special teams, and he can be moved around as a receiver. King should see some opportunities to get the ball his freshmen year.
[player_tooltip player_id="49718" first="Cade" last="Gatschet"] – Bishop Carrol, 6’0”, 180, DB
Butler adds another great defensive-back to pair with Carson in their secondary. Gatschet’s instincts in pass coverage led him to five interceptions his senior year, and he also piled up 95 total tackles.
[player_tooltip player_id="100982" first="Jamier" last="Garrett"] – Hayden, 5’11”, 180, LB
Garret is an explosive athlete that can play multiple positions on defense. I would expect Butler to use his versatility in a variety of ways.
[player_tooltip player_id="86219" first="Kale" last="Hauserman"] – Clay Center, 6’4”, 280, OL
A program can never have enough hogs upfront, and Hauserman adds to an impressive freshmen offensive-line group. Hauserman will do a fine job of sealing the edge for Butler’s offense.
[player_tooltip player_id="35498" first="Chas" last="Calgren"] – Concordia, 6’3”, 235, TE
Calgren has the size and physicality to be a solid tight-end for the Grizzlies. He has a linebacker background, so he will not be shy about engaging defenders in the run game.
[player_tooltip player_id="49762" first="Kai" last="Johnson"] – Holcomb, 6’4”, 240, DL
Johnson and Traglia could be a strong duo coming off the edges for Butler’s defense. The Holcomb product finished his senior year with 41 total tackles, five being for a loss, with six sacks and a safety.
[player_tooltip player_id="100968" first="Tim" last="Wells II"] – Hayden, 6’3”, 235, DL
Wells could be an interesting prospect for Butler. The 3A All-State member primarily lined up as a 3-technique during his senior year, but I think he has the ability to line up as a 5-technique as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="49713" first="Hunter" last="Renick"] – Cimarron, 6’2”, 245, ATH
Renick shows great skills as a blocker, and has the capability of playing full-back and tight-end. He could be used for certain offensive packages, and possibly for some short yardage carriers.
[player_tooltip player_id="86312" first="Logan" last="Brown"] – Iola, 6’1”, 260, DL
The Grizzlies add another solid piece to their defensive-line with Brown. He will add great depth to an already impressive incoming defensive-line group.
[player_tooltip player_id="86226" first="Carson" last="Arndt"] – Wichita Northwest, 6’0”, 160, K
Wichita Northwest’s explosive offense kept Arndt busy throughout 2020. Arndt had 97 kickoffs; 21 of them being touchbacks, and he converted 73 extra points.
[player_tooltip player_id="100955" first="Adam" last="Young"] – Olathe South, 5’10”, 165, K
Butler gets another great boot by adding Young. It’s safe to say that Butler’s kicking game is in good hands with Young and Arndt.
[player_tooltip player_id="35479" first="Jordan" last="Rainer"] – Hayden, 6’4”, 200, LB/ATH
This group of 21 BUCO signees is capped off by the versatile Hayden product. Rainer has the frame to play outside-linebacker for Butler’s defense, and he has the athleticism to play tight-end or receiver.
