This is a review of the fourteen players who make up the Pre-Season 1A All-State Offensive Team. Players who graduated early and enrolled in college were not included. The team has two quarterbacks, running back, three wide receivers, tight end, five offensive linemen, athlete, and a kicker.
<strong>QB – Troy Hoilman, Avery County.</strong> Accurate passer who delivers passes on target. He will tuck it and run for yardage to avoid a sack. He was the Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. He threw for over 3,100 yards during his junior season.
<strong>QB – Timothy Davis, Winston Salem Prep</strong>. Dual threat as a skilled passer and a runner. He threw for over 3,600 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards during the 2019 season.
<strong>RB – Tobias Joyner, Tarboro.</strong> An explosive runner with break-away speed. A threat to score when the ball is in his hands. He is the top running back in the class.
<strong>WR – [player_tooltip player_id="28641" first="Dakota" last="Twitty"], Thomas Jefferson.</strong> A big wide receiver who is difficult to defend in man coverage. He separates from defender and runs good pass patterns, scoring often.
<strong>WR – Ty Smith, Avery County.</strong> He displays ability to separate from the defender to make the catch. Displays solid hands and ability to make catches in traffic. Led conference in receiving yards, catches, and touchdown catches.
<strong>WR – Daniel Britt, Hobbton.</strong> Strong on short pass-route running. Displays ability to shield off defender to make the catch in traffic.
<strong>TE – [player_tooltip player_id="28636" first="Benji" last="Gosnell"], East Surry.</strong> He uses size and strength to shield defender to make the catch and gain big yardage. He is difficult to stop when running in open space.
<strong>OL - [player_tooltip player_id="28452" first="Yousef" last="Mugharbil"], Murphy.</strong> A dominant force on the offensive line. Displays good foot movement as he overpowers defender, often resulting in a pancake block.
<strong>OL – Sam Whitt, East Surry.</strong> Displays good footwork and use of hands. He simply overpowers defender with his strength.
<strong>OL – Tate Lawson, North Moore.</strong> Displays good lateral movement and technique. He is quick out of his stance to contact defender.
<strong>OL – Nathan Colombo, Holmes.</strong> Displays strong straight-line blocking. Displays speed and quickness to block on sweeps. He is the anchor on the high-powered Holmes offensive line.
<strong>OL – MacKenzie Baker, East Surry.</strong> Low center of gravity plus power to block defender out of the play. Displays solid technique and lateral movement.
<strong>ATH – [player_tooltip player_id="28512" first="Savone" last="Tutt"], Pamlico County.</strong> He plays multiple positions on the field. An explosive runner with the power to run over defenders. A physical tackler on defense, making punishing hits.
<strong>K – Matias Akers, Polk County.</strong> He displays a strong leg and has been steady in his performance on the field. Consistency and good range on kicks has been solid.
