Despite the NCAA extending the dead period, recruiting is starting to really pick up across the state of Oklahoma as National Signing Day is in our rear view mirror and the focus has now shifted to the 2022 class. In the last week, eleven 2022 prospects picked up offers from the next level. Every Monday, we’ll update you on all of the recruiting news from across the state. From offers to commitments, we’ll have you covered. As always, you can follow us on Twitter to stay up to date from the moment an offer or commitment happens. @PrepRedzoneOK

Three Prospects Earn First Offers
Three of the eleven prospects who picked up offers last week were first timers. It started last Monday, hours after we dropped last week’s Recruiting Notebook, Noble standout [player_tooltip player_id="111754" first="Trevor" last="Lorenz"] picked up his first offer from Eastern Michigan. Whether it’s as a wide receiver or a safety, Lorenz earned the attention of schools despite only playing about half of his junior season. Lorenz dealt with an illness and you combine that with the Covid pandemic and Lorenz had to miss significant time. However, now that the first offer is under his belt, more schools should start paying attention.
The second prospect to earn his first offer was Putnam City West two-way star [player_tooltip player_id="61134" first="Corey" last="Gordon"]. He’s flown somewhat under the radar because the Patriots have struggled on the field as a team. However, Gordon continues to make plays as a wide receiver and more importantly as a defensive back. Gordon earned his first offer from New Mexico, and that started the momentum as Baylor offered Gordon later in the week. Gordon is also a standout on the basketball court but it’s clear that his future is as a football prospect.
And finally, Southeast defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38722" first="David" last="Rowaiye"] joined the party with an offer from Baylor on Friday night. Similar to Gordon at PC West, Rowaiye might have flown under the radar because Southeast has struggled on the field. In fact, if Rowaiye ends up signing with a power five program, he’ll be the first Southeast prospect to do so since Gerald McCoy in the mid 2000’s.
Army Has A Very Busy Week
All three programs within the armed forces routinely recruit Oklahoma and last week, Army was very busy, especially in the Oklahoma City area. They also certainly had their eye on the defensive side of the ball as three of the four offers they extended came on that side. Within a two-day stretch, Army offered Edmond North defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="111755" first="Lebron" last="Jones"], Norman North linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="61131" first="Duncan" last="Parham"], Stillwater linebacker and Oklahoma State commit [player_tooltip player_id="38676" first="Gabe" last="Brown"] and Yukon offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="61128" first="Lane" last="Parks"].
Army signed four Oklahoma prospects in the 2021 class. It was headlined by Owasso linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="38516" first="Emaud" last="Triplett"], who was a top 25 prospect in the current senior class. Army, much like the other two armed forces programs, extends offers to plenty of Oklahoma recruits each year. They certainly throw out a big net trying to land a commitment or two. They were successful with the 2021 class, they’re attempting to do the same with the 2022 group.
Union Pair Continues Momentum
Union has a pair of juniors that have blown up in the last month and that’s only continuing as we near the end of February. We start with defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="61138" first="Jayden" last="Rowe"]. The standout corner has been on our radar for about a year now and he had a terrific junior season. We’ve made the comparison to Choctaw 2021 DB [player_tooltip player_id="38492" first="Jordan" last="Mukes"]. Rowe looks similar to Mukes physically. But his recruitment is blowing up around the same time Mukes’ recruitment did last year. They also are top five prospects in their respective classes. Rowe picked up another offer in the last week when Kentucky was the latest program to show interest. That offer train will just keeping on rolling and at this point there is no end in sight.
On the offensive side of the ball, running back [player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"] picked up another offer when Eastern Michigan extended an offer. Eastern Michigan is no stranger to Union running backs. They signed Darius Boone a few years ago. Smith is also a standout on the defensive side of the ball as a safety. But on offense, Smith was the third member of a three-headed monster at running back for Union. Just like with Rowe, Smith’s recruitment has really taken off and there’s no reason to think it’ll slow down any time soon.
McClellan Picks Up Marquee Offer
One of the top defensive linemen in the 2022 class is Owasso defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="38674" first="Chris" last="McClellan"]. He’s a top ten prospect and he’s certainly being recruited like one as he’s picked up offers from all over the country. His latest offer came last week when he tweeted out that Oregon had extended an offer to the Owasso big man. Oregon isn’t a stranger to recruiting Oklahoma but they routinely only recruit the state’s elite prospects. McClellan is certainly that as he had a great junior year with well over ten sacks. McClellan also made some news in the last month when he transferred from Edison to Owasso, making Owasso’s defensive line unit immediately one of the best in Oklahoma.
Another Ivy League Comes Calling For Frakes
Last week, we wrote about Norman North 2022 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="108886" first="Gavin" last="Frakes"] picking up his first offer and it came from Ivy League’s Yale. This week, Frakes heard from another Ivy League program and picked up his second offer, this time from Penn. Frakes is expected to take over the starting quarterback role for Norman North in 2021. Frakes only had a couple pass attempts in 2020. Despite not having much experience at the varsity level, the expectations are already pretty high for the Norman North QB.
