The Midwest has some exceptional receiving talent in the 2022 class. These top eight receivers are athletes that are good route runners, confident in their ability to make the catch, and have the speed and quickness to make vital yards after the reception.

[player_tooltip player_id="37529" first="Luther" last="Burden"] 6’2” 205 East St. Louis, Illinois

Burden possesses speed and acceleration along with having good size for a receiver. He is versatile enough to play either wideout or a slot receiver. Luther is an elusive runner once he hauls in the reception. Luther can really separate from defensive backs that try to cover him one-on-one. Press corners have no chance of jamming and covering Burden. He can really get up in the air to highpoint the football. Burden is committed to the University of Oklahoma for 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id="37523" first="Kevin" last="Coleman"] 5’11” 170 Louis, Missouri St. Mary’s

This guy is stick of dynamite for his size. He is nearly impossible to bring down in the openfield. Coleman is shifty in space and can split defenders or completely make them miss. He is especially impressive catching quick and tunnel screens. Kevin’s yards after the reception numbers are huge. He is just as dangerous to the opposition as a punt and kickoff returner. Coleman is showing a slight lean to the Missouri Tigers at this point in recruiting.

[player_tooltip player_id="34379" first="Kaden" last="Saunders"] 5’10” 170 Westerville, Ohio South

Saunders is a sure-handed receiver that can catch the ball in rhythm as he breaks his route. He is most impressive as a slot receiver where he can use his quickness to beat man coverage or split Cover 2 running vertical. Kaden demonstrates the ability, despite his size, to go up and snatch the ball over the top of pass defenders. Like most great receivers, he is hard to bring down in space. Saunders has been committed to Penn State for quite some time.

[player_tooltip player_id="20878" first="Tyler" last="Morris"] 6’0” 175 LaGrange Park, Illinois Nazareth Academy

Morris is a physically impressive athlete that his coaches can move around to get a mismatch on a less talented defensive back. He runs excellent routes and displays to reach back across his body to haul in errant passes. Morris uses his body effectively in out leveraging corners on sideline routes. He is also effective running the jet sweep coming in motion from the slot receiver position. Morris is strongly leaning to the University of Michigan.

Tay’Shawn Trent 6’4” 210 Eastpointe, Michigan

Throw the fade route in the redzone to Trent and he will definitely get vertical to make the reception for six points. He uses in body to out position the defender. Trent is a reliable receiver that has soft and sure hands to go along with deceptive speed to pull away from defenders. He is a physical player that is one of the better blocking receivers in the Midwest. Trent is another superb return specialist and is currently leaning toward Michigan State University.

[player_tooltip player_id="39048" first="Omar" last="Cooper"] 6’1” 160 Indianapolis, Indiana Lawrence North

Cooper can be an inside or outside receiver who displays big play making abilities. He is especially impressive making receptions in traffic showing confidence and concentration in making the catch. Cooper does an excellent job of timing when going up for the football. He demonstrates balance and body control after being hit in order not to go down. Cooper is showing a slight lean toward Purdue University.

Antonio Gates 6’3” 185 Dearborn, Michigan Fordson

Gates is a tall and intimidating wideout. He is a true vertical threat running the fade, post, and skinny post routes. He gets separation from cornerbacks who make the mistake of using press man technique. Gates is skillful with his hands in using a variety of pass releases and is also able to turn and set up defensive backs his shifty moves when running patterns. Gates is currently leaning to Michigan State University in terms of recruiting.

[player_tooltip player_id="18422" first="Eli" last="King"] 6’3” 185 Caledonia, Minnesota

This multi-sport competitive athlete excels on the football field as a big and physical wide receiver that runs good routes and can catch the ball in a crowd. Eli has very deceiving speed for his size and the toughness to go along with his skill level. He is a determined return specialist that isn’t afraid to run over defenders on his way to the endzone. King has the frame to grow into a tight end at the next level. Eli is showing a slight lean to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
