There are multiple players on this website who get plenty of love but as a scouting website as well, there are players who maybe don’t get enough recognition. Here is a collection of players, one at each offensive position, who is poised to have a breakout senior year.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="96127" first="Reece" last="Davidson"], Wentzville Liberty (6’2, 180)
Backing up a future college QB ([player_tooltip player_id="37304" first="Blake" last="Seaton"]) didn’t allow for much playing time for the junior. When Davidson did get into the mix, the fiery leader showed solid toughness, above average speed and effort as a runner. Though limited with his passing attempts, Davidson has improving arm strength and the ability to add touch to his throws. An extremely hard worker, the rising senior should get plenty of opportunities this summer and fall to show off his upgraded game.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="96827" first="Trevin" last="Shrum"], Macon (6’, 205)
Shrum finished off the 2020 season with a flourish and will look to take that momentum into 2021. The Macon runner has good long speed, is decisive in his cuts and runs with authority. A strong offseason and senior year should earn him long looks from college programs.
TE [player_tooltip player_id="99517" first="Alex" last="Ginnever"], Holt (6’4, 225)
Holt High School is loaded with talent and should compete for a state championship in 2021. One of the players who will benefit from the extra exposure is Ginnever. The junior only had 13 catches in 2020 but once he had the football in his hands, he runs hard and has above average speed. Though he lines up at the wide receiver position, his college position is tight end. With added weight this offseason, do not be surprised if Ginnever not only rises in these rankings but gets serious D-1 looks.
WR/TE [player_tooltip player_id="37642" first="Cameron" last="Paul"], Kirkwood (6’4, 230)
Kirkwood graduated three star wideouts and just hired a former NFL wide receiver (Jeremy Maclin) to be the head coach. No one will benefit from these changes more than Paul. The WR/TE prospect has improved his speed, strength and quickness. Paul was already a solid route runner and has good hands. With more opportunities to show his playmaking ability, look for Paul to have a breakout senior season.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="96172" first="Mason" last="Gastel"], Lamar (6’3, 175)
Gastel is a very good athlete who uses his speed and size well to create space and mismatches in coverage. Gastel made some exciting and game-changing plays on the Lamar’s championship run as a junior and the added confidence will only grow heading into his senior season. Gastel, with a productive camping offseason, should see his recruiting begin to rise.
OL/LS [player_tooltip player_id="37632" first="Matthew" last="Mayer"], CBC (6’1, 220)
The junior is one of the most technically sound players in high school football. Playing center, he is quick off the snap, pulls with speed and ease and uses leverage to move the defender out of the hole. I am not sure if Mayer can get any bigger, but the highly intelligent player has a future as a long snapper as well. Mayer is one of those players who loves football so much I would not bet against him.
