The MHSAA state playoffs were finally back in action this past weekend after a 50+ day layoff. Despite playing on frozen fields in the middle of January, playing conditions were favorable for the Regional Final games across the state. Below are the athletes who stood out from the west side of the state.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="54861" first="Zak" last="Ahern"], QB, Rockford</h6>
Zak picked up right where he left off in a Division 1, Regional Final win over Saline. The senior quarterback completed 14-of-18 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns and ran 17 times for 128 yards and a rushing touchdown. Rockford will face Davison in a Division 1 semifinal.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="29554" first="Jace" last="Williams"], WR, Grand Rapids Catholic Central</h6>
The future Miami Redhawk hauled in three touchdown receptions in the Cougar’s 58-7 win over Muskegon Oakridge. Jace now holds the MHSAA touchdown receptions record with 46 scores. Grand Rapids Catholic Central will face Freeland in a Division 5 semifinal.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="29673" first="Drew" last="Collins"], QB, Montague</h6>
Drew was a perfect 12-for-12 through the air for 228 yards and three touchdowns and ran for an additional score in Montague’s 41-16 win over Montrose. Montague will face Grayling in a Division 6 semifinal.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="29824" first="Brady" last="Rose"], QB, Muskegon Mona Shores</h6>
Brady continued his dominant ways, rushing 15 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns in Mona Shores’ 24-21 win over East Lansing. Brady also recorded four tackles on defense. Mona Shores will face Traverse City Central in a Division 2 semifinal.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="29610" first="Amari" last="Crowley"], QB, Muskegon</h6>
Amari completed 11-of-13 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in Muskegon’s 24-0 win over East Grand Rapids. Muskegon will face Dewitt in a Division 3 semifinal.
<h6>Jonathan Adams, LB, Muskegon</h6>
Jonathan recorded 10 tackles in Muskegon’s win. The Big Red’s defense allowed 73 total yards in the regional final victory.
<h6>[player_tooltip player_id="30105" first="Drew" last="Bidwell"], RB/LB Edwardsburg</h6>
Drew rushed for three touchdowns in Edwardsburg’s 47-7 win over South Christian in a Division 4 regional final. Bidwell also led the Eddies’ defense, holding South Christian to 138 total yards. Edwardsburg will face Cadillac in a Division 4 semifinal.
<h6>Carter Harsch, RB/DB, Cadillac</h6>
Carter ran for two touchdowns and intercepted a pass on defense in Cadillac’s dramatic come from behind 27-23 win over Forest Hills Eastern. Cadillac will play in its first-ever state semifinal against Edwardsburg on Saturday, January 19th.
