Top DB in the state Ceyair Wright commits to USC

Loyola (Los Angeles) defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="25031" first="Ceyair" last="Wright"] announced his commitment to USC on Saturday during the All-American Bowl Declaration Day broadcast on NBC. Wright is the No. 1 defensive back in the state <a href="https://prepredzone.com/california/rankings/2021-rankings/">according to Prep Redzone</a> and the No. 9 overall prospect in the class. He chose USC over Jackson State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oregon. “Honestly, the decision was based probably more for off the field reasons than on the field ones,” Wright told Greg Biggins of 247Sports. “From a football standpoint, of course I like the program, coaching staff and the direction things are going but I took football out of the equation, looked at all the schools and USC is where I think I can be the most successful." "When I did that, USC was the clear winner for me. USC has a a great Business program and the networking at USC is tough to beat. On the field, Wright sees an opportunity to get some early playing time at USC. The Trojans’ starting cornerback <a href="https://twitter.com/OlaijahGriffin/status/1344930295057850370?s=20">Olaijah Griffin </a>declared for the NFL draft on New Years Day. I was really close with Todd Lyght, the old DB coach and was leaning there at the time but when he left, I never felt that same connection." “I liked Michigan a lot too and really liked Oregon. Coach Chance at Oregon is a great guy and they really recruited me hard. He has played against a few of the players in the class and has participated in camps with several of the other recruits. USC quarterback commit [player_tooltip player_id="25028" first="Miller" last="Moss"] from Alemany High posted a picture on Twitter with Wright, [player_tooltip player_id="25023" first="Korey" last="Foreman"], and commit Michael Trigg eating together. “It’s just a good all around fit on the field and off the field. I’m close with a lot of the recruits that are coming in and even though that didn’t play a huge role, it’s just another added bonus," Wright said. "It just adds to the comfort level I already have so I’m excited to be a Trojan."
