Friday, we were out in Bettendorf, Iowa, at the TBK Sports Complex for our first-ever Prep Redzone Iowa Showcase. Plenty of talent was on display from states like Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota & Wisconsin. Here were Friday’s top QB performers.

QB’s
[player_tooltip player_id="65584" first="Devin" last="Swift"], 6’1, 190, Rock Island, (IL), Sr
A dual-threat QB who can escape the pocket and extend plays with his feet. Swift does a good job keeping his eyes downfield, still looking for a target. He will transition his body weight to get the most behind his deep throws. He’s still uncommitted and looking for a home; I’d check the tape on him!
Chord Miller, 6’1, 165, St. Teresa, (IL), Sr
Not only was Miller one of the fastest QB’s at the event, but he was also one of the fastest prospects overall. He showed magnificent speed, clocking back to back 4.60’s in the 40-yard dash. On tape, and in-person, he showed that he’s a true spot thrower who can help throw his targets open. I wasn’t aware of Miller before this camp, but I sure know about him now.
[player_tooltip player_id="65080" first="Eli" last="Downen"], 6’4, 220, Carterville, (IL), Sr
If we had a QB MVP award, it would have went to Mr. Downen. Eli stood out during both the individual and the 1 on 1 portion of the event. He’s got a rocket arm, a compact release, and light footwork in his drop back. Downen was able to make every throw and had a tight spiral that was always put on the money. I’m shocked that this kid is still available.
[player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"], 6’2, 200, Sioux City East, (IA), Jr
One of the top 2022 quarterback prospects in all of Iowa was in attendance and was lights out. Longval showed a clean release, impressive timing with his wideouts, and great footwork. In my eyes, he deserves more recruiting attention than he’s getting. He was spectacular as a sophomore at Bishop Heelan and had a strong year two at Sioux City East.
[player_tooltip player_id="65708" first="Brayden" last="Deem"], 6’2, 190, Rockridge, (IL), Jr
Deem is one of the rising 2022 QB prospects in Illinois. Deem’s got great touch on his vertical ball, is a tough runner with the ball in his hands, and throws well on the move. He looked very good during the 1 on 1 portion of the event and showed no issues throwing to new receivers.
[player_tooltip player_id="49852" first="Brandon" last="Hoban"], 6’2, 180, DeLaSalle, (MN), Jr
Man, is this young man fun to watch on tape. I saw Hoban at the event and was really impressed by his skillset. After, I felt like I had to take a gander at his film and find out more about his ability. The pure escapability on tape was downright masterful. In-person, he was dropping teardrops on the go ball, right into the wideouts breadbasket. It’s hard to find quarterbacks who simply just make something happen, but you have that with Mr. Hoban.
[player_tooltip player_id="23990" first="Carson" last="Maeder"], 6’4, 190, Davis, (IA), Jr
A tall quarterback with exceptional touch. Maeder can tuck the football and get to the perimeter fast. On film, he outran defensive backs and wasn’t afraid to lower his shoulder. Carson did a good job of squaring his shoulders on the move and was consistent during individual drills.
[player_tooltip player_id="66108" first="David" last="Dorn"], 5’11, 190, Wheaton Academy, (IL), Jr
I was shocked by how quick of a release Dorn has. This young man can extend plays with his legs and can make you pay if you don’t lock onto your man in coverage. He’s a solid anticipatory thrower and will hit wideouts as they’re getting out of their breaks. Not the biggest guy in the world, but has a very high football IQ and can be a good fit in a wide-open spread offense.
[player_tooltip player_id="65707" first="Keegan" last="Glover"], 6’, 170, Benton, (IL), Jr
The ball jumps out of Glover’s hand, and he consistently will put it right on his target’s numbers. He’s a talented thrower on all three levels and doesn’t get rattled against the rush. Glover threw a pretty ball on Friday night and was clearly one of the best QB’s in attendance. I hope these guys get to play, and if they do, Mr. Glover should put up some crazy stats.
[player_tooltip player_id="99342" first="Peyton" last="Goode"], 6’, 190, Ankeny Centennial, (IA), Jr
Goode could have a future at either receiver or quarterback. He throws a pretty ball with no loops in his windup. His ball had some serious zip behind it, and he hit his targets with authority. As he moves to QB full-time as a senior, keep an eye out for him, as he’s only going to progress with more reps under his belt.
[player_tooltip player_id="20894" first="Kevin" last="Zimmer"], 6’3, 235, Carl Sandburg, (IL), Jr
A big, strong-armed kid with overall impressive athleticism. Zimmer is willing to play anywhere on the field and is as competitive as they come. On Friday, he threw a good ball and was able to consistently fit the football into tight windows. Kevin has a bright future, regardless of what position he plays at the next level.
Hayden Timosciek, 6’7, 230, Lockport, (IL), Jr
This young man had the strongest arm at the event and was launching balls 50 yards downfield effortlessly. I’m very interested to see his progression on tape as a junior. If Hayden can show on tape, he can consistently place the ball in the vertical passing game; colleges are going to take notice.
Jameson Sheehan, 6’3, 190, Cary Grove, (IL), Jr
Sheehan plays in a triple-option offense but showed in person that he can thrive in any offense. He’s got great footwork in the pocket and can sling it over the middle. The arm strength is there, as is the pure foot speed that’s hard to find in a QB. If Illinois plays this year, he should be a breakout star.
[player_tooltip player_id="98656" first="McKade" last="Jelinek"], 6’, 205, Linn Mar, (IA), Jr
McKade thrives off play-action and can quickly set his feet to deliver a strike. He showed firm mechanics in person and a great demeanor. Jelinek wasn’t on my radar prior to this event, but he clearly showed he should be.
[player_tooltip player_id="65706" first="Aidan" last="Pieper"], 6’2, 195, Nazareth, (IL), Jr
Nazareth’s new quarterback showed up and performed very well. Aidan’s got a lightning-quick release, and the ball jumps out of his hand. He consistently placed the vertical ball right on the money during 1 on 1’s and showed off a live arm during individual. His sophomore tape was great on the lower levels, and I think he’s got a chance to be very good at the varsity level moving forward.
