OB Showcase Gives Seniors One Last Chance
There’s no doubt that this has been a very tough year for everyone.
But for high school seniors who are looking play sports in college, this has been a nightmare.
With no contact from college coaches over the past year, many seniors who were not on the radar, are scrambling right now.
Even colleges are filling up with newcomers and student/athletes returning to school for another year – granted by the NCAA.
We have a mess, and relying on people to promote you is not a reality. Not this year. Not during Covid restrictions.
ORANGE BOWL SHOWCASE TO THE RESCUE
What will happen once again will be the Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase.
With the hard work and diligence of so many, who many who understand the need for a college scholarship, this yearly event has taken off in a major way.
With high school seniors getting that one final chance to showcase their skills – athletically and in the classroom – to college coaches who are there to take this weekend in.
With 45 student/athletes receiving college scholarships in last year’s event – from the 40 colleges on hand, the Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase estimated that $1,094,075 of scholarship money was awarded last year.
Overall, $3 million in financial aid has been provided annually to participants in this event, nearly 300 student-athletes have been recruited by colleges & universities in the first four years.
The Orange Bowl’s mission and vision is to promote and serve south Florida in order to inspire youth, engage the community and enhance the economy. The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase meets that mission and vision by providing an opportunity for young student-athletes to use their football and academic skills to attend college and ultimately earn a degree. This effectively has the profound effect of changing young peoples’ lives.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase is a FREE one-day (Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021 – St. Thomas University, Miami Gardens, FL 33054) event, in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF) and its local chapters, that will bring together Florida high school seniors and educational institutions in Division II, III, and NAIA programs from across the country. In light of COVID-19, this year we have implemented numerous health and safety measures to comply with local, state, and national coronavirus restrictions. In addition to performing temperature checks during the check-in process, colleges, student-athletes, volunteers, and staff persons will receive various PPE items.
Additionally, student/athletes activities will be slightly modified along with the implementation of various sanitation protocols. While encouraging social distancing, attending colleges and universities will still have the opportunity to view participants compete in a series of tests and drills that best display each player’s various talents at their respective positions.
Following the showcase, players and universities will meet to discuss scholarship opportunities for the participating athletes. Masks must be worn at all times and additional precautionary measures will be put in place.
HOW IT WORKS
All student-athletes must pre-register. The participant must be a graduating high school senior and who has not accepted a scholarship offer from a Division I football program. In addition they must meet the following qualifications:

Have an SAT score of 920 (math and verbal only) or higher.
Have a composite ACT Score of 18 or higher or a sum score of 68 or higher.
All Division II, III, and NAIA athletic directors and head football coaches are invited to attend. Staffs from admissions and financial aid departments are encouraged to attend as well.
