One of those places is Ocala. While known more for the horses that are bred in the spacious communities in and around Ocala, football is actually a sport that has been in the spotlight for decades.
Some top prospects have made their way from this community – to the south of Gainesville and less than two hours north of Orlando.
This past season several teams stepped up along with a few key defensive players.
Today, we take a look at five Ocala area prospects who have a chance to be special in 2021:
2022 – Elijah Russell, DL, Ocala Forest. A major two-sport athlete, who enjoyed a tremendous season in 2020. His 43 tackles, 12 sacks and numerous QB pressure made him someone to stay away from. He runs very well, has long arms really looks very impressive. By the way, this 6-8, 225- pounder is also a dominating player on the basketball court and is fast, agile and very athletic.

2023 – Donathan LeCorn, LB, Ocala Trinity Catholic. If the name sounds familiar, it should. Several members of the family have played this game in the past – a majority of them for Trinity Catholic. Watch him play and you are blown away by his quickness and knowledge of the position. His 81 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and one pass breakup made him a truly valuable talent to have. Is also vital on special teams as well.

2022 – Tommy Harward II, LB, Citra North Marion. Watching the Colts play this past season, here was one of those play makers who made a number of key plays for this football team – as this season certainly took some twists and turns. His numbers were indeed something that had everyone watching. Leading the way with 74 tackles, 10 important tackles for loss and one sack.

2022 – Emile Sancho, DB, Ocala Vanguard. Yet another gifted football talent that this program produces each year – on both sides of the ball. Made a huge contribution in the regular season as well as the state playoffs – with 26 tackles, one sack and an eye-catch six

2022 – Jearld Smith, LB, Ocala Lake Weir. Not the biggest player around, but easily one of the most productive players in the region this past season. Always found a way to be where the ball was – and that added up to 55 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
