Here are five defensive sleepers from Class 1A in the Class of 2021 who can tackle.
DB, Henry Burns, 6’0”, 160, Sedgwick – Burns has explosive speed, good hands, and finishes tackles. He led the Cardinals in tackles with 94 in 2020. He is also a talented wideout who caught 14 touchdowns during his senior year.
DL, Hunter Schaaf, 6’0”, 205, Uniontown – Seventy-six tackles is a high number for a defensive lineman. Schaaf’s high energy and quick speed led to all of those tackles for the Eagle DE. Ten of Schaaf’s tackles were for loss and he finished with two quarterback sacks.
LB, Jonathan Temaat, 5’11”, 175, Oakley – The Plainsmen senior finished with 78 tackles during his senior campaign. He is not scared to bring the wood to an opposing ball carrier. He is a quick and strong linebacker who could play at the JUCO level.
DB, Griffin Kugler Griffin Kugler 6'1" | 160 lbs | WR Smith Center | 2021 State KS , 6’1”, 175, Smith Center – Kugler is a hard-hitting Smith Center product who is built to play safety or a monster linebacker. He was third on the Redman roster in tackles with 75. He amassed five interceptions during his senior season.
LB, Brady Burson, 6’1”, 181, Central Heights– Burson is a solid prospect with a football frame. During his senior season, he totaled 67 tackles for the Vikings. He tracks the ball well and attacks it when he gets brings down ball-carriers. Burson forced three fumbles for Central Heights and had two pass deflections.
