Here are five players from the Class of 2022 Class 2A Ranks who finished among the state tackle leaders.
LB, Bryce Sieb, 5’10”, 175, TMP-Hays – Sieb is a quick outside linebacker. The hard-hitting junior had 94 total tackles for the Monarchs in 2020. He also had an interception and two sacks for Thomas More Prep. Sieb projects as a fringe Division II prospect who will be deserving of multiple offers from college programs.
LB, Mason Gottschalk Mason Gottschalk 5'10" | 175 lbs | ATH Ellis | 2022 State KS , 5’10”, 170, Ellis – The Railroaders linebacker finished his junior season with a team-high 87 tackles. Gottschalk also plays against the pass as he finished the 2020 season with one interception, three pass deflections, and two sacks. He has an athletic frame and can increase his stock value with a productive offseason in the gym. The Ells junior is also an offensive weapon has he racked up more than 1,200 all-purpose yards on offense.
LB, Memo Flores Memo Flores 5'7" | 195 lbs | ATH Southwestern Heights | 2022 State KS , 5’7”, 195, Southwestern Heights – Flores is a bulldozer. The junior inside linebacker finished with 83 tackles in 2020 for the Mustangs. He also has a nose of the football as he caused one fumble and recovered three more during his junior campaign.
DB, Gage Flager, 5’10”, 170, West Franklin – Flager is an interesting prospect. He was among the state leaders in tackled playing for the West Franklin Falcons finishing with 69 tackles in his junior season. On the offensive side of the ball, he has played quarterback and tight end. Flager is also a talented baseball player. He should have plenty of options to continue his athletic career past high school.
LB, Corey Catron, 5’8”, 160, Rossville– Rossville continues to produce smart football players and winning teams. Caton, a junior inside linebacker, finished his junior season with 69 tackles and 2 sacks. He was also a turnover machine accounting for five fumble recoveries and an interception for the 2A State Champion Bulldogs.
