We are back for Part Two of this mini- series highlighting the best available at each position! Yesterday we took a look at the best remaining at each offensive position. Today we are going to dive into the defensive side of the ball. It will be the same as what we did yesterday. We are going to build the best possible starting lineup with the players that are uncommitted plus add in an ATH player to give us a total of 12 of the best uncommitted seniors from across Wisconsin. For each player I will provide a quick scouting report of what they have to offer college programs. Let’s get it started! Defensive Line [player_tooltip player_id="30778" first="Nate" last="Hess"], 6’2" 250- Arrowhead Nate is a big and powerful defensive linemen. He wins with his play strength at a consistent pace. Nate does a great job of getting his hands on the offensive lineman and driving them into the backfield against the run creating a ton of disruption and TFL opportunities for himself. Nate also has the speed to pursue down the line when his offensive lineman pulls away from him and make a play from behind. Hess has a nice pass rush repertoire that allows him to win in several ways. He can bull rush linemen into the QB’s lap, or use his quick hands to rip past linemen. Nate is the exact type of powerful, physical presence you want on the defensive line. It’s no surprise that he has started receiving some FCS interest after his strong senior campaign. [player_tooltip player_id="31017" first="Monta" last="Beamon"], 6’5" 235- South Milwaukee If you are looking for length off the edge then look no further than Monta. His frame is exceptional for the position. The best part is that he uses that length so well to create separation as he bends around the edge from his DE position. Monta is very athletic as well. His first step quickness gives him an instant upper hand on offensive linemen and once he defeats the block he has the ability to chase down opponents anywhere in the backfield. Beamon also offers the strength to set the edge against the run and the agility to make pulling linemen miss him in a small area. Beamon is going to be an impact player at the next level along the DL. [player_tooltip player_id="30763" first="Jason" last="Klauck"] 6’4" 235- Kiel Jason possesses the length you look for at the DE position. He does such a great job of setting the edge against the run. His film shows that he can either stop linemen in their tracks, get off the block, and make the tackle, or that he can squeeze down on plays away from him and make plays on runs going the other way. One of my favorite traits about Klauck as a pass rusher is that he has counter moves. A lot of time you will see defensive linemen use maybe one pass rush move, but once it is stopped they just try to muscle their way in. Klauck has proven to have good initial moves, but also good counters to those moves. There is a lot to work with here. Linebackers [player_tooltip player_id="30748" first="Austin" last="Dahlke"] 6’1" 190- Edgar The reigning Prep Redzone Wisconsin Player of the Year is still looking for his future home. A team is going to get a stud when he does decide. Dahlke plays with a great combination of speed and strength. His game is one of the most complete in the state. He can drop into coverage, he can rush the passer, and he can stuff the run with ease. Dahlke is the embodiment of the term three down linebacker. Add in his relentless play style, aggressive mentality, and physicality and you get one of the best overall players in the state. Austin is a legitimate D1 level player. [player_tooltip player_id="30795" first="Owen" last="Arnett"] 6’0" 212- Arrowhead Owen might be the best coverage LB in his class. He consistently creates turnovers and big plays when he drops into coverage. His athleticism allows him to cover a large zone and cover receivers, instead of just RBs or TEs. Arnett does a great job of reading the QB and his reaction time once the QB attempts his pass is special. His natural hands leads to the interceptions as well as being able to disrupt other reception attempts. Against the run, Owen turns into a punishing defender that does a great job of playing in space and on the edge. His athleticism shows up again here as he easily corrals ball carriers that are trying to get around the edge and deliver some big hits. Arnett is a tone setter and will be a leader for a college defense in the years ahead. [player_tooltip player_id="30767" first="Brock" last="Lampe"] 6’1" 225- Kenosha Bradford Brock is a downhill, hard hitting inside linebacker. Lampe excels against the run game. He is one of the best at shooting through gaps after he reads run. It looks like he is shot out of a cannon and will get through a lot of the time before the OL even has time to get a hand on him. I love to see how much he trusts what he sees. There is no wasted time or movement in his play. His play strength is the key to his game. It shows up in his tackling, and when he is getting off blocks. It is hard to slow him down or get him off his path once he gets going. Brock’s closing speed is next level too. It ends plays so quickly that ball carriers have little time to attempt to make him miss. [player_tooltip player_id="30779" first="Noah" last="Galindo"] 6’3" 230- Germantown Galindo is one of the most physically imposing defenders available. He has great size, speed, and strength for the position. When he makes a tackle it looks like he completely engulfs the ball carrier. His ability to read and react are special. He can diagnose plays quickly and put himself into perfect position to make a play thanks to his athleticism. Somehow, Galindo is always in the right place at the right time. It isn’t just as a run defender either. He can shut down the middle of the field when he drops into coverage. He is a sideline to sideline playmaker and was the tone setter for his defense and he can do it for a team at the next level too. Defensive Backs [player_tooltip player_id="30738" first="Carter" last="Borchardt"] 6’3" 205- Stevens Point This is one of my favorite twitter follows. I haven’t seen a kid grind harder than him and shape his body more than Carter has over the past 9 months that I have followed him. He has gone from around 190 lbs to 205+ lbs and his strength in the weight room has gone through the roof. This is the grind you love to see out of high school athletes. He isn’t someone who is a football player for 10 weeks out of the year. It is a year round commitment for him. I can’t wait to see how it elevates his game this spring too because at his previous size and athleticism he was already one of the best defensive backs this senior class had to offer. Keep your eyes on the Stevens Point stud this spring. [player_tooltip player_id="30965" first="Brandon" last="Moeri"] 6’3" 205- Hudson Moeri is a physical safety prospect. He flies downhill and delivers devastating hits on ball carriers with his imposing frame. I’m a big fan of his versatility. His film is full of him doing different roles. Sometimes he is covering deep, then he will be manned up on a slot receiver, then he will be making a tackle against the run game. There is no doubt about his ability to make plays from sideline to sideline as a deep safety. There are several examples of him covering the ground to make those exact type of plays. Brandon has all the speed needed for the position to go along with the physicality. That speed and physicality blend is what makes him a potential D1 level prospect. [player_tooltip player_id="30766" first="Connor" last="Shefchik"] 5’11" 170- Green Bay Preble Connor has next level speed. He clearly can run with any receiver he is matched up against. His reactive athleticism makes it easy for him to stay with receivers throughout their routes and he has the ball skills to make plays on the ball and generate turnovers. Shefchik has special range too. He plays quite a bit of zone coverage and uses his awareness to find receivers entering his zone and the range to go make plays anywhere in his zone. Connor is a big time threat when he gets the ball in his hands too. Connor has a knack for getting into the endzone when he gets the ball in his hands. This is going to be one of the best CBs in action this spring. Keep an eye on him. [player_tooltip player_id="31089" first="Jarrick" last="Miller"] 6’2" 190- Franklin Miller has the tools and traits you look for in a 3 level defensive back. He has the size and physicality to be a consistent playmaker against the run. His range allows him to play in a deep zone and make plays on the ball from sideline to sideline. His overall athleticism allow him to cover receivers in man to man, and the length he has allows him room for error. Jarrick can line up all over too. His film shows him deep, in the slot, and in the box making plays. I believe that Jarrick is a collegiate level DB and should be a contributor early in his career. Athlete [player_tooltip player_id="94744" first="Mitchel" last="Schwartz"] 6’1" 215- Kenosha Tremper Schwartz could play on either side of the ball. I included him in the defensive article because I believe that he best translates to the next level as an LB. Schwartz has several of the tools you look for in an LB prospect. He has plenty of size and room to grow. He has the range to make plays from sideline to sideline and the strength to get off blocks and make plays in the box. Against the pass, Schwartz has solid awareness in zone coverage and when the QB rolls out he does a good job keeping himself in position to make a play on the ball once it is thrown. Mitchel only has a couple of roster spot offers thus far, so check him out!
