With 10 players inside the Prep Red Zone Class of 2022 state rankings top 100 and another 15 in the bottom half, the Central Savannah River Area is chock full of talent.
It includes eight-man football players, those in the SCHSL’s Class 4A, and several points in between. After a relative dip in the area’s recruiting scene this year, the CSRA is going to be a boon for future college players next December and February.
We broke down the CSRA’s best players in this five-part series.

SCHOOL: Silver Bluff
POSITION: Offensive lineman
ANALYSIS: After starting at tackle as a sophomore, Barton moved to guard in 2020 and still produced. He led the team in what it refers to as “hustle blocks” and added five pancakes.

SCHOOL: Ridge Spring-Monetta
POSITION: Wide receiver
ANALYSIS: The Trojans’ top pass catcher has an excellent sense of field awareness and is great along the sidelines. It helped boost his receptions total as a junior.

SCHOOL: Strom Thurmond
POSITION: Linebacker
ANALYSIS: The hard-hitting middle linebacker’s highlight reel only takes breaks from Varsity Blues-level hits to show off his best carries from his reps at running back.
DARYL “DJ” SIMMONS
SCHOOL: Aiken
POSITION: P
ANALYSIS: Simmons got plenty of chances to hone his craft this past season, and it showed over the course of the brief year. He averaged better than 41 yards per punt with decent hang time.

POSITION: Defensive lineman
ANALYSIS: Gibson stepped up big time after line mate [player_tooltip player_id="59500" first="Chase" last="Tillman"] went down, piling up 37.5 tackles, eight tackles for loss and a pair of sacks.
