When it comes to Georgia High School Football, it’s never too early to take a peek at some of the younger prospects, who have shown their worth, and ability to play football at a high level throughout their younger years. While some players start to shine early in their sophomore campaigns and gain plenty of attention, other players show small flashes of ability, while compiling strong seasons that are unfortunately overlooked. Lucky for you, we tend to look for the kind of players who are diamonds in the rough, and have not gotten the looks that they deserve. Because of this, we have taken some time to evaluate some of the most underrated, and overlooked 2023 prospects in Georgia. Specifically, we have listed a few QB’s below who you should take a peek at before they blow up over the next few years. [player_tooltip player_id="34066" first="Colin" last="Houck"]- Parkview High As expected, [player_tooltip player_id="34066" first="Colin" last="Houck"] has made our list as one of the most underrated QB/s in his class. Not only has he played lights out as a Sophomore, but he managed to put his team in a position to compete in the playoffs. When evaluating his film, it is clear that he has the frame to play the QB position at a high level, as well as the release and throwing mechanics to make solid plays. The ball leaves his hands cleanly, and accurately most times as well. One thing we will like to see him improve with is his footwork in the pocket, because at times, it appears a bit choppy. Look for him to make a huge jump entering into the 2021 season, and for more schools to start to look at his potential of playing at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="34071" first="Owen" last="Brooker"]- Northwest Whitfield High When you cut on the tape of [player_tooltip player_id="34071" first="Owen" last="Brooker"], you’ll quickly notice that he has a very fast, and unconventional release, that gets the ball to receivers in a timely manner, and allows them to put themselves in good positions to score. While he may be a bit of a raw QB, he can almost best be described as a backyard style QB, who also has mobility. Because of this, he is also able to use his legs to put his offense in good positions throughout the duration of the game. In the air, while he is a bit inconsistent at times, he has a high level of arm strength, and talent that allows him to put himself. Because of these things, we feel that if he can further progress in consistency, he will have an opportunity to continue playing football following his high school playing days. Logan Cross- Social Circle High Logan Cross, QB for Social Circle High has shown that over the duration of this season that he not only has the ability to lead a football team at a very high level, but that he also can make various throws on the football field. While we do feel he is a bit of a smaller school prospect, we also acknowledge that he has plenty of tools in his ability to pay football that make him an underrated player, To start, he has the ideal height and length to play the position, and he can also get the ball out quickly. When throwing the football, while he does not have a quick release, he does have decent ball placement. He can make intermediate throws, but this all depends on how fast he reads the play. As he continues to develop over the next few years, it will be clear what level of football he can play at if given the chance. RJ Johnson- Westlake High The fact that RJ Johnson is on this list should not come as a surprise. As a 2023 QB, he led his team to a successful regular season, while also providing them an opportunity to compete in the playoffs. Johnson has a solid arm, and can drive the football cleanly into various windows. With this, it is clear that he has improved and developed as a passer over the season due to the fact that he is doing a better job at making certain reads. He also has a unique level of athleticism, and speed, that help him to gain yards with his legs as well. Ultimately, this causes a ton of problems for opposing defenses. With this, he also has a very strong arm, and can make intermediate throws when needed. Moving forward, we would like to see his pocket presence improve, as well as how he maneuvers the pocket under pressure. If he can continue to improve in these things, he will be on the fast track to another successful year entering into the 2021 season.
