While they take the majority of the punishment on the football field, the game is often times won, or lost due to their performance. Whether its run blocking, or pass protection, a solid offensive line is key to a team’s success. This is evident at the higher levels of play, as teams such as Alabama, and Ohio State always manage to run the ball well due to their strong offensive lines. Throughout the state of Georgia, there are plenty of bigger offensive line prospects within each class, and they always go on to make a name for themselves at bigger programs. Along with this, there are also tons of unsung heroes on the offensive line who don’t get the credit they deserve either, thus making them underrated, and underappreciated. Lucky enough for them, we always take notice of their ability, and below, we have even listed some of our favorite offensive linemen in the 2022 class.
Will Collier Will Collier 6'5" | 280 lbs | OL Valdosta | 2022 State GA – Valdosta High
Standing at 6’5 255 pounds, Will Collier Will Collier 6'5" | 280 lbs | OL Valdosta | 2022 State GA is a big body on the offensive line, and an even bigger problem for defenders trying to get past him. During the 2020 season, he was a major key to his team’s success. especially in pass protection. Perhaps one of Collier’s biggest strengths is his ability to use his hands quickly and effectively when engaging defensive linemen. He stands defenders straight up, is able to move is feet, and effectively maneuver in protection. With this, he also plays the position with an attitude, and can often times be seen finishing blocks, and moving downfield. Something we would like to see Collier improve in is how raw he can be with his footwork at times. If he can adjust this, and develop an ability to shuffle more cleanly, he can look forward to receiving more attention from different colleges.
Ashton Jackson Ashton Jackson 6'5" | 310 lbs | OL Jenkins | 2022 State GA – Jenkins High
Jackson, who is even bigger than Collier stands at 6’5, 300 plus pounds. On the offensive line, he is almost immovable, but is also a bit of a raw prospect. While he has a great lower body build and strength, he can get off of the ball a bit slow at times. Regardless, he finishes blocks well, and has no problem getting his hands on people. He drives his feet well, and is huge for his offense’s running game. As he continues to develop, we hope to see him begin to mature in his ability to pass protect, and move quicker.
Thomas Waters Thomas Waters 6'1" | 270 lbs | OL Oconee County | 2022 GA – Oconee High
While many listings label Thomas Waters Thomas Waters 6'1" | 270 lbs | OL Oconee County | 2022 GA as being 6’1, for a shorter offensive linemen, he holds his weight very well. Off of the snap of the ball, he engages defensive linemen well, and uses his hands. Along with this, he shows a decent ability to pull, and use his feet to gain proper footing. Waters also shows to have a wide body, which helps off of the line. Moving forward into next season, we want to see Waters improve in his stance, and the ability to use a flat back when blocking defenders. This will take him to the next level in his ability, and will help him get more looks for smaller programs.
Jalen Farmer Jalen Farmer 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Eastside | 2022 State GA – Eastside High
Jalen Farmer Jalen Farmer 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Eastside | 2022 State GA is another offensive linemen who flies under the radar, but is definitely very underrated. To start, he has the ideal height, and frame for the position. While he does move a bit stiff, and can stand straight up at times, we do believe he can pan out to be an effective linemen at a smaller program. He gets his hat on defenders pretty well, and also rolls his hips when he engages defenders. With this, Farmer also uses his hands decently well, but we would like to see him adjust his feet a bit better in pass protection. Farmer also finishes blocks, which has been crucial for his team in the running game. Look for him to continue to gain more “pop” on contact going into next season, as he will continue to develop into his body.
