As the 2020 high school football season is unfortunately coming to a close for plenty of seniors throughout the state, that means that the time for exposure through new game film is also winding down as the season ends. Regardless, there have been plenty of prospects throughout the state who have not only played their hearts out, but have managed to compile great senior seasons, which can ultimately help them gain opportunities to play football at the next level. Specifically, in a loaded 2021 WR class throughout the state of Georgia, there have also been plenty of players that have shined, but have been overlooked due to the big names throughout the state. Even if this may be the case, we wanted to take some time to give back, and show some love to some of the most underrated WR’s throughout the entire 2021, Georgia WR class. [player_tooltip player_id="33802" first="Maleek" last="Wooten"]- Jones County While Wooten may not be the most polished receiver, we do believe that he is one of the most underrated prospects throughout the state. Not only does he have the ability to take the football, and turn it into a positive gain, but he also has great speed, burst, and quickness to him. He is very aware of defenders, and has even shown his explosiveness, as he can be seen hurdling players. Wooten’s ability to change direction, and use his feet off of the line has also been effective in his ability to get open on routes. While he is definitely a smaller prospect, and is almost certainly not getting the looks that he should because of this, we do believe that his talent should not be wasted strictly at the high school level. Because of this, we do hope that he will get a chance to play at the next level. Marquis Willis- Roswell High Brother of Malik Willis, the starting QB for Liberty University, Marquis Willis shows that the athleticism his brother shows at the collegiate level is something that runs in the family. Not only does he have the desirable frame for a receiver, but he has shown that he can high point the ball, and catch it cleanly with his hands, regardless of the situation. He runs clean routes, is quick out of his breaks, and and his change of direction helps him to get open more times than not. With this, we also feel that he has great straight line speed, which allows him to take the top off the defense when needed. Ultimately, we feel he can play at the next level as well, and it is only a matter of time before smaller programs take even more notice. [player_tooltip player_id="33808" first="Ricardo" last="Johnson"]- Thomasville High [player_tooltip player_id="33808" first="Ricardo" last="Johnson"] out of Thomasville High, is a long, skinny WR prospect for Thomasville High who has been very effective with his post routes, and ability to go up and get the ball on back shoulder passes. While his route running is very raw, we do believe that his ability to get open due to his shiftiness has been a key factor for his team this season. With this, Johnson has also shown that he can catch the ball cleanly, even when pressed by coverage. If he can gain a bit more speed, he can be a role player for a small school at the next level of play. [player_tooltip player_id="33814" first="Josh" last="Harris"]- Newnan High [player_tooltip player_id="33814" first="Josh" last="Harris"], who has proven to be a great offensive weapon for the Cougars, has also been instrumental in the success of Newnan’s QB, Michael Maginnis. Harris, who is a bit of a longer WR prospect, has shown the ability to catch the ball cleanly, and take off with a solid burst as well. With this, Harris also has the ability to track the ball, and high point the football, and stick his foot in the ground with a good stick move, which ultimately helps him gain much needed separation. One thing we would like to see Harris improve on is his footwork in his route running, but overall, we do feel that he can be effective for at least a D2 program at the next level.
