Nothing like compiling a list of top running backs in the Piney Woods of East Texas to find out every single player is ranked in our database. I love covering East Texas because it can often be a blast from the past, a place where real smash-mouth football is still played. Sure, I am partial since I played there, and to be honest, I am very partial to the run game since I was a big ugly offensive lineman myself. All that to say, I didn’t seek out to scout ten players that are ranked prospects, but I sure am not surprised to find this many talented backs in this region of the state. Needless to say, these backs are the monsters that live in scary stories, and the reason many in the region call themself, "Beast Texas".
[player_tooltip player_id="60248" first="Caleb" last="Berry"], Lufkin (2021 RB, 6’2"/215) Berry is smooth as butter and it looks effortless when he has the ball in his hands. For his size, his feet are incredible... he may look like its all poetry in motion, but when a defender gets to close and come in high, Berry has a crushing stiff arm. [player_tooltip player_id="60248" first="Caleb" last="Berry"] is atop this list for a reason and has committed to the University of Washington. Senior season highlights.
[player_tooltip player_id="60205" first="Jordan" last="Jenkins"], Lindale (2021 RB, 6"1"/205) Jenkins is taking his talents to Waco, to play for the Baylor Bears. His current tear through the Texas High School playoffs is the stuff of legends (9 TDs in one game). This kid is the total package! Watch some clips of his monster performance a few weeks ago in the playoffs, and take note in Lindale makes it to the title game so you can tune in and watch him.
[player_tooltip player_id="60319" first="Trevion" last="Sneed"], Mineola (2021 RB, 6’0"/220) Tackle this young man low or pay the price, this SMU commit plays violent and hard. This makes sense because Sneed is a two-way standout and I will be interested to see how SMU uses him. He is the opposite of Berry but with a similar body type, Sneed looks and plays like a bruiser! Check Sneed out wrecking the opponent on both sides of the ball here!
[player_tooltip player_id="60782" first="Bryson" last="Donnell"], Tyler Legacy (2022 RB, 5’11"/180) Speed and hustle jump off the tape when you watch Donnell. This young man has a great burst and can make big plays happen at a moment's notice. I am most impressed with how complete he is for a junior, pass block is solid and the hustle is there regardless of the situation. At the end of this clip, watch him track down and make a tackle from the far backside of the play!
[player_tooltip player_id="60573" first="Damian" last="Henderson"], Liberty-Eylau (2021 RB, 5’8"/185) Don't blink, don't give this kid an inch of a crease or you will be watching the backside of his uniform blaze to the end zone. Henderson is a true home run hitting type back with great vision and shiftiness, but knows when to put the foot down and go. Check out his senior tape.
[player_tooltip player_id="60441" first="Keamodre" last="Horace"], Center (2021 RB, 5’10"/205) Horace is Center's workhorse and put up monster numbers his senior year, to the tune of 2300 yards and 32 TDs. Good eyes and burst, but his balance is superb as he rarely goes down after initial contact. Get your popcorn ready to watch this film!
[player_tooltip player_id="60235" first="Kaden" last="Meredith"], Longview (2021 RB, 5’10"/190) Longview is a traditional power with a traditional I-Formation offense, luck for them they have a back like Meredith. Meredith has patients for his blocks to set up and the holes to open, and when they do, watch out! Meredith has breakaway speed and only seems to get better as the game goes on. http://www.hudl.com/v/2EbZaq
[player_tooltip player_id="60709" first="Jamarion" last="Miller"], Tyler Legacy (2022 RB, 5’10"/185) Tyler Legacy has an embarrassment of riches, notice Miller is the second RB on this list from this program! Just like his teammate, Miller is also a Junior playmaker. Arm tackles are a joke with Miller and he eats DBs for breakfast, the only thing that stops him is the end zone. Highly recruited for his speed and strength, expect larger programs like Texas, Okie st., Arkansas to land Miller. http://www.hudl.com/v/2EhGFZ
[player_tooltip player_id="60498" first="Vi’Dareous" last="High"], Alto (2021 RB, 6’1"/180) Mr. versatility can hurt defenses from various positions with his speed and vision. Alto moves High around and gets creative in their ways to make sure he gets plenty of touches every contest. High can catch like WR, run like an RB, and understands the game like a QB. It will be a great Christmas present to whichever college program signs High! http://www.hudl.com/v/2Dxx7s
[player_tooltip player_id="60180" first="Nick" last="Martin"], Pleasant Groove (2021 RB, 6’1"/220) This dude is tough, some skill players get labeled as divas, don't go there with Martin. I loved his tape so much, I had a really hard time deciding what to share with you. I decided on his game vs #2 powerhouse, Carthage, watch the toughness and grit Marin plays with! He is laying some serious wood on defense and as a blocker, then he runs all over them for a cherry on top. Forget calling Martin a complete back, he is a complete football player!
