The early signing period for football began on Wednesday and we saw over 30 athletes across Oklahoma sign on the dotted line with their future colleges. Now, the majority of those players were signing with D1 programs. The next signing period will begin on the first Wednesday in February. For every prospect in Oklahoma, it’ll be a fast six weeks as colleges try to fill out their signing classes. For a complete list of yesterday’s signings, you can check that out RIGHT HERE. [player_tooltip player_id="38519" first="Braeden" last="Winters"] - Linebacker - Bartlesville
The linebacker position is deep in Oklahoma for this senior class and you’ll figure that out pretty soon on this list. We kick things off with Bartlesville senior [player_tooltip player_id="38519" first="Braeden" last="Winters"]. The Bartlesville standout has been just that for the Bruins over the last two seasons. The Bruins played in one of the toughest districts in the state, regardless of class this season and Winters was one of the better defenders in that district. While the record wasn’t what Bartlesville would like, Winters had a fantastic season and has put together two really strong seasons. Winters has without a doubt flown under the radar and is considered an underrated recruit but all you need to do is look at the production and more importantly, who that production is against.
[player_tooltip player_id="45655" first="Brenden" last="Dye"] - Linebacker - Owasso
When it comes to Owasso, they have perhaps the best linebacker group in this senior class. In addition to Army signee [player_tooltip player_id="38516" first="Emaud" last="Triplett"], they also feature [player_tooltip player_id="45655" first="Brenden" last="Dye"], who is one of the best at his position as well. Triplett gets a lot of the pub but when you actually watch Owasso on tape or in person, you see that the two of them absolutely work off each other. Dye flies all over the field and can play sideline to sideline. He’s at his best when he’s coming up and defending the run but he has no problem helping out the secondary and can drop back in pass coverage. We mentioned how many talented linebackers are on this list and Dye is one of the best.
[player_tooltip player_id="38609" first="Caden" last="Harrell"] - Linebacker - Cashion
He plays for a state championship tonight, Cashion’s [player_tooltip player_id="38609" first="Caden" last="Harrell"] is a fantastic two-way player for the Wildcats but there is no doubt that his strong suit is on the defensive side of the ball. Either way, when Harrell is on the field, you know what you’re going to get with him. As a running back, he’s going to try to run through you instead of around you. As a linebacker, he plays with that same intensity and can cover from sideline to sideline. He is without a doubt one of the hardest hitting football players in the state, especially among the smaller classes. In our opinion, Harrell is one of the best linebackers in the state, regardless of class. You certainly know what you’re getting with Harrell as a winner as he’s helped lead Cashion to back to back title games.
[player_tooltip player_id="38571" first="Darius" last="Moore"] - Linebacker - El Reno
El Reno has a couple players that should be considered high priorities when it comes to this senior class. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="38571" first="Darius" last="Moore"] is that guy on the defensive side of the ball. Moore is an experienced playmaker that continues this trend of linebacker standouts on this list. Moore is a three to four year starter and has been a critical part of El Reno’s turnaround over the last few seasons. Moore is an absolute wrecking ball of a player when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. In fact, El Reno has a couple linebackers that colleges should be tracking and Moore should be at the top of that list. Every season, Moore has continued to grow and add new things to his game. Early this season, with El Reno struggling with injuries, Moore was a bright spot.
[player_tooltip player_id="38511" first="Darryan" last="Moss"] - Linebacker - Broken Arrow
Our final linebacker is Broken Arrow’s [player_tooltip player_id="38511" first="Darryan" last="Moss"]. And this one is an interesting case as depending on the defensive scheme and depending on how Moss develops physically, he could be considered more of a defensive end or hybrid. He has fantastic size and speed right now but he also has room to grow and if that ends up being the case, we could see Moss blow up at the next level. The Broken Arrow standout had a breakout season as a junior and that only continued this year as a senior. Broken Arrow is loaded with talent at the linebacker position and it was Moss that was the leader of the group. Both on the field and on the sideline, Moss kept the other Tigers in check. He’s a prospect with plenty of upside moving forward.
[player_tooltip player_id="38579" first="Javyn" last="Wright"] - Cornerback - Vian
Another two-way player that seems to excel on the defensive side of the ball is Vian’s [player_tooltip player_id="38579" first="Javyn" last="Wright"]. The Wolverine standout is an outstanding athlete when it comes to offense but his skills are definitely suited better for the defensive side of the ball. Wright is one of the fastest players in the state and because of that, he can stay with just about every receiver he’s faced this season. Whether you like Wright as a corner or just an overall athlete, there should be no doubt that he has the ability to be an absolute steal in this senior class. Wright and Vian didn’t finish 2020 like they expected when they came in but he was still one of the better two-way players in Oklahoma.
[player_tooltip player_id="38514" first="Jayden" last="Patrick"] - Cornerback - Jenks
Jenks captured another state championship in 2020 and senior [player_tooltip player_id="38514" first="Jayden" last="Patrick"] was the best player on the field for the Trojans week in and week out. Whether it was on offense as a breakout star receiver or on defense where he has the ability to be a shut down corner, Patrick was a game changer. We’ve liked Patrick as one of the best corners in this senior class for over a year now but he’s certainly added more value this fall when he added the offensive element. He’ll have more opportunities to play at the next level because of that and rightfully so. But when it comes down to it, we feel like Patrick is at his best when he’s on the defensive side of the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="51177" first="Joe" last="Maytubby"] - Defensive End - Shawnee
Without a doubt one of the best rush ends is Shawnee’s [player_tooltip player_id="51177" first="Joe" last="Maytubby"]. He has blossomed into that position over the last 18 months. He’s continued to grow and get bigger and has established himself as one of the top guys in this senior class at that position. It certainly helped this season with first year head coach Jason Sexton. The first year coach knows defense and especially knows defensive standouts. Maytubby excelled under Sexton and can absolutely get after the quarterback. Before his senior season, his recruiting stock was starting to go up. That should only continue as his senior film makes the rounds. As far as defensive guys go, Maytubby should be a high priority.
[player_tooltip player_id="38591" first="Justin" last="Hines"] - Defensive End - Coweta
Another big player that has shown an ability on both sides of the ball is Coweta’s [player_tooltip player_id="38591" first="Justin" last="Hines"]. There is no doubt that the Tigers have a very bright future with some special young players. However, one of the better seniors on this squad was Hines. We like his game when he’s on defense and he puts his hand in the ground. He has the ability to disrupt the running game and terrorize quarterbacks. When it comes to Hines and how he projects, he could end up moving around on the defensive line. If Hines gets into the right college program when it comes to strength and conditioning, he certainly has the frame to add weight and be moved around on the defensive line. If that ends up being the case with Hines, we could just be scratching the surface on how high his ceiling could be.
[player_tooltip player_id="38533" first="Owen" last="Ostroski"] - Defensive Lineman - Holland Hall
You can make the argument that we saved the best for last. In all honesty, we went alphabetically, but yes, [player_tooltip player_id="38533" first="Owen" last="Ostroski"] is the best available defensive prospect in the state’s senior class. Ostroski took the next step this fall and became an unstoppable force along the line of scrimmage. He’s on the short list in the state where if you don’t have a double team set up, your quarterback or running game is toast. Ostroski has looked like a an absolute monster at times this season where he’s used brute strength to shed a block. This Holland Hall defense was special, winning a state championship, and it all started up front with Ostroski.
