Many teams and players in Group 3 had standout seasons. From quarterbacks to special teams players to defensive playmakers, Group 3 saw some incredible performers in the 2020 football season. Let’s take a look at some of the top Group 3 players from the fall.
<strong>Michael Miller, Somerville: </strong>Miller put the state on notice as a sophomore quarterback for Somerville. He was extremely efficient and finished with 1,600 passing yards and 17 touchdowns to three interceptions in the Pioneers’ 7-0 season. He also ran for 164 yards and four TDs, running for 116 yards and two scores in a 55-42 victory over Summit.
<strong>Cookie Desiderio, Somerville: </strong>Desiderio was one of the top ball carriers in the state. He put up video game numbers throughout the season, rushing for 1,569 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season. He ran in at least two touchdowns in every game this season. He made four receiving TDs and finished with 310 receiving yards on the season.
<strong>John Volker, Rumson-Fair Haven: </strong>Volker was a consistent threat for Rumson-Fair Haven. He ran for 1,173 yards and 15 touchdowns, rushing for 100 yards in every game on the season, and finding the end zone in every game but one.
<strong>Anthony Johnson, Burlington Township: </strong>Johnson made 23 receptions for 675 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished with four 100-yard games, including a six-reception, 175-yard, three-touchdown showing against St. Joseph (Hamm.).
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28006" first="Charlie" last="Sasso"], Wall: </strong>Wall was one of the strongest defenses in the state this season. Sasso was one of the anchors on that side of the ball. He totaled 97 tackles, with six for a loss, and he averaged 13.9 tackles per game. In addition, Sasso had three sacks, an interception, a pass deflection and two fumble recoveries. <strong> </strong>
