A bunch of Group 2 schools had a number of playmakers in the 2020 football season. Between quarterbacks, running backs and linemen, there were some big-time performers. Let’s take a look at the best players from Group 2 this past football season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27942" first="Teddy" last="Gouldin"], Bernards: </strong>Gouldin led Bernards to an 8-1 record, completing 69 percent of his throws and throwing for 1,172 yards and 14 touchdowns to one interception. He rushed for 230 yards and a TD on the season. Gouldin showed precision on his throws all season. The Mountaineer senior threw for five touchdowns in his last game of his career in a win over Immaculata.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27918" first="Frank" last="Riggio"], Verona: </strong>Riggio ran for 772 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. He ran for over 100 yards in three games, including a 199-yard performance in a win at Ramsey on Nov. 6.
<strong>Zach Palmer-Smith, Delran: </strong>Despite just four games of action, Palmer-Smith ran for 828 yards and 13 touchdowns for Delran. He set the tone for the limited season with a 190-yard, three-touchdown performance against Cinnaminson. He followed with 304 yards and four scores against Northern Burlington, 206 yards and four TDs against Pemberton and 128 yards and two TDs against Burlington Township.
<strong>Corey Palmer, Camden: </strong>Palmer, a three-star recruit, made an impact for 4-1 Camden. He finished with 458 receiving yards and three touchdowns on offense and he made three interceptions on the defensive end. Palmer made six receptions for 192 yards and a TD in the season opener at Winslow. He had two interceptions against West Deptford and caught seven throws for 105 yards.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27993" first="JoJo" last="Bermudez"], Cedar Creek: </strong>Bermudez, a Rutgers commit, ran for 410 yards and five touchdowns, caught 35 throws for 486 yards and two touchdowns, made an interception on defense and had three kickoff returns for scores for Cedar Creek. A versatile player, Bermudez ran for 100 yards twice, including 140 yards on 10 carries against Ocean City, and had 114 receiving yards, an interception and two kickoff returns for scores against St. Joseph (Hamm.).
<strong>Fatir Bell, Hillside: </strong>Bell had a strong season for Hillside with 588 receiving yards and six TDs and two interceptions on defense, with one returned for a score. He closed out the season with three consecutive 100-yard games on the receiving end.
<strong>Steven Lopez, Bernards: </strong>Lopez made three of four field goals on the season, including a 47-yard attempt in the team’s victory over Voorhees. He also made 39 of 41 PATs.
