For the first time in seven years, West Des Moines Dowling did not claim the Class 4A state title. Instead, it was Ankeny hoisting the trophy.
The Hawks were an elite team, and you can see that by the number of Prep Redzone All-State selections they have including quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"], running back [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] and receiver [player_tooltip player_id="23810" first="Brody" last="Brecht"]. All have signed to play football at the next level.
Here’s a look at the 4A team:
OFFENSE
Quarterback
[player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"], Ankeny (2021)
On a team filled with stars, [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] shined incredibly bright. Bauer completed 62 percent of his passes for over 2,000 yards, throwing 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He was also excellent running the football.
Bauer directed the offense with precision and speed, pushing the tempo and constantly picking up first downs and touchdowns.
Running Backs

[player_tooltip player_id="23841" first="Ryan" last="Ostrich"] scored 14 touchdowns and averaged over seven yards per carry while teams knew they needed to stop him. They couldn’t, and that is a testament to his skills and abilities.
And while [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] didn’t have the carries as others, his impact on the game was unbelievable. He averaged over eight yards per carry. Iowa is getting a tremendous talent in Bruce, hopefully they allow him to shine in several roles.
