While it’s fun to talk about the up and coming prospects, there are plenty of seniors who are still unknown to colleges across the country who deserve recognition after a big season this fall.
Hudson Posey – OLB – West Forsyth:
It was a magical season for the Wolverines who won Region 6 in the 7A class this fall thanks to a great performance all season by senior linebacker Hudson Posey. The two-sport star is also an impressive 1st baseman, but this fall he was one of the more productive linebackers in the county. The 6-foot-3 195-pounder totaled 97 tackles in 2020 with 20 TFLs, 8 sacks, 22 QB pressures, 6 PBU, 1 pick-six, and 2 fumble recoveries. If the Wolverine defense needed a play, Posey was there to make it. He’s a tough linebacker who loves contact, and he played his best football at the end of the season when every game mattered. All season Posey showed great instincts, toughness, leadership, and the ability to make big plays with the game on the line.
Derrick Taylor- Free Safety – Irwin County
The small-town Indians are playing for a state championship this week, and a big reason for that is due to the defensive play by defensive back Derrick Taylor. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s a true ball-hawk who plays the game with a passion most just don’t have. This past fall, Taylor made 60 Tackles, four INTs, 1 FF, 1 FR, and two defensive scores. He’s a great tackle and one of the hardest hitters in South Georgia. Taylor shows great ball skills, agility, and playmaking ability. He’s consistently one of the best athletes on the field and made a big impact on special teams as well. He continues to be one of the top under the radar prospects in the region.
Kam Ward – Running Back – Irwin County
Another Irwin County star to know in Monday’s state championship is Kam Ward. The 5-foot-10 205-pounder is a bruising back with good strength who knows how to bounce off tackles. He’s an extremely tough runner who is tough to bring down by defender once he gets through the line of scrimmage. This fall, the senior back rushed 121 times for 1,010 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was consistent for the Indians all season and will be counted on in a big way if they want to beat mighty Brooks County for the Class A public state title.
Clark Howell – Running Back- North Hall
Another senior running back who impressed this season was Howell. The small-town star from around Lake Lanier at North Hall isn’t the biggest or fastest running back in the state, but he was one of the most productive. Howell excelled in North Hall’s high-powered rushing attack, leading Class AAA in rushing this season with 1,740 yards and 24 TDs. He’s faster than folks realize and follows his blocks extremely well. He works the sidelines extremely well and shows great burst once he gets through the line. He’s agile and knows how to make a defender miss in close spaces. He was one of the top 2020 running backs in North Georgia this past fall.
