The tight end position is a multipurpose weapon in any offense nowadays, the ability to create big-play opportunities in open space in the passing game or be a key blocker that will sustain key blocks in the run game. Whether they are lined up on the line of scrimmage or flexed out in the slot, the ability to be a threat wherever you line up as a tight end is always a plus to have in your offense. Here are five 2021 tight ends from the state of Maryland and from Washington D.C. to keep an eye on! [player_tooltip player_id="90332" first="Bryce" last="Butler"] 6-3 253 St. John’s College High School (Washington D.C.) The versatile athlete at tight end who is a University of Ohio commit displays the ability to line up in different spots in the offense such as lining up as an inline tight end (on the line of scrimmage), an H/Back, and in the slot. He shows to have strong hands and is productive with the ball in his hands to make key plays throughout a game. [player_tooltip player_id="90317" first="Curtis" last="Nixon"] II 6-5 220 Maret High School (Washington D.C.) The big athletic Old Dominioncommit demonstrates the ability to be productive with the ball in his hands and gains valuable yards after the catch in key situations. He demonstrates the ability to come out of his breaks with a burst which helps create separation in coverage from the opposing defender. [player_tooltip player_id="90313" first="Leron" last="Husbands"] 6-4 220 Charles Herbert Flowers High School (Maryland) The explosive Maryland commit demonstrates the ability to accelerate out of his breaks in his routes to create big opportunities for winning one on one matchups throughout a game. He can box out defenders and adjust his body to position himself to make tough key catches even in tight coverage to make the big play. [player_tooltip player_id="90316" first="Joseph" last="Bearns"] 6-2 245 St Frances Academy High School (Maryland) The physical and versatile Maryland commit lines up as a H/Back (tight end/fullback hybrid) and is an absolute battering ram in the run game, dishing out complete physical blocks throughout a game. He demonstrates the ability to work well in space to make key catches when called upon in the passing game and gets the key yards after the catch. [player_tooltip player_id="90385" first="Chreign" last="LaFond"] 6-5 225 John F. Kennedy High School (Maryland) A dynamic athlete that has good awareness to make separation from coverage and accelerate in open space to make key plays throughout a game. He demonstrates the ability to be able to block well in space by showing good leverage and good hand placement to drive out the defender and create running lanes.
