Louisiana State Championships: Uncommitted Prospects in Class 3A

A Louisiana high school football season once uncertain to even occur will close this week with nine final intriguing matchups. Northwestern State in Natchitoches will host the LHSAA’s Prep Classic event — as opposed to its usual home at the Superdome in New Orleans — because of concerns related to COVID-19. But, for all the abnormalities and adjustments, the significance, excitement and levels of talent remain high as ever. Prep Redzone Louisiana will look at three to seven of each matchup’s remaining unsigned and uncommitted prospects. &nbsp; <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PK6h2rflrGg" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" data-mce-fragment="1"></iframe> &nbsp; <strong>Class 3A</strong> <strong>No. 2 Union Parish vs. No. 9 Madison Prep</strong> <strong>Wednesday, 1 p.m.</strong> Union Parish ended a higher-seeded Madison Prep’s season in last year’s Class 3A quarterfinals. But both teams have advanced back to their first state championship game since the Farmers’ thrilling, double-overtime title in 2013 and Chargers’ heartbreaking, one-point loss in 2016. And coaches Joe Spatafora and Landry Williams bring talented rosters with them to Northwestern State in Natchitoches to battle for this year’s crown. Union Parish wide receiver Dylan Harris committed to nearby Grambling State last month, and Madison Prep athlete signed with Memphis during the early period. But several of their teammates are still looking for college homes during this and future recruiting classes. &nbsp; <strong>2021 Recruiting Class</strong> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="63743" first="Troy" last="Porter"] — 6-7, 305 OL — Madison Prep</strong> The huge offensive lineman is one of the first two or three players of a really big, physical Chargers’ team as a whole that stands out during warm-ups because of his size. That frame, paired with his ability to move well with it, has caught the attention of several colleges, including some Power Five programs, who think he could be an intriguing prospect who could develop and potentially excel at the next level in the coming years. <strong>Peyton Talley — 6-0, 255 OL — Union Parish</strong> Year in and year out, the Farmers’ success is predicated on their physicality at the point of attack and ability to free their athletic rushers enough space to move the ball on the ground. Their senior right tackle has paved the lanes for many of his teammates’ explosive runs this year. He holds a few small college offers, such as Carthage, Trine and Norwich. <strong>2022 Recruiting Class</strong> <strong>Zeon Chriss — 6-2, 205 QB — Madison Prep</strong> Memphis and William &amp; Mary are the first offers for the Chargers’ junior quarterback, who has earned playing time since his freshman season. Houston, Louisville and Baylor have also shown interest in the athletic, dual-threat passer who has made plays all season with both his arm and his legs. The junior’s ability to get the ball downfield to weapons such as Raby, Marlon Smart and Brian Chatman. <strong>JaQuarius Donald — 5-10, 188 RB — Union Parish</strong> The junior fullback has run the ball 107 times — largely playing through and over defenders — for 536 yards and six touchdowns this season, while also helping provide blocking for his sophomore teammate’s ridiculous campaign. Quency Wiggins — 6-5, 275 DL — Madison Prep Wiggins would fall into the same category as Porter in terms of passing the eye test. Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, Arkansas, Arizona and Indiana all extended offers this year, and his quickly developing and improving game will draw many more this offseason. &nbsp; <strong>2023 Recruiting Class</strong> <strong>Trey Holly — 5-6, 178 RB — Union Parish</strong> Wednesday will provide much of the state’s first look at the explosive sophomore running back that has electrified northeast Louisiana all fall — and, to some degree, for the past three seasons. Holly has rushed 260 times for 2,595 yards and 44 touchdowns in just 11 games this season, for averages of 9.98 yards per attempt and 235.9 yards per contest. Grambling State recently became his first college scholarship offer, and many others are sure to join.
