Recruiting has now become so specialized that any and every “stone” is fair game when you happen to be recruiting against some of the elite schools in the nation.
No matter what class the athlete may be in – this is time of year that they will be looking for publicity and exposure.
With the season finished throughout the country, it is now officially the off-season, and with this pandemic still gripping many of us, the camps, combines and 7-on-7 events will still happen in many places, but you can almost guarantee that they will all be watched closely until the vaccine becomes available for all.
The one thing we do during the off-season, is provide information on players and teams that we see LIVE. This Covid-controlled season, we still managed to get in 75 different games – with as many as seven doubleheaders – ensuring that we will see those prospects that fans are asking questions about. It has always been that way.
While we will run our list for the top players in the classes, there are so many athletes that people just do not see – and from our camp, combine and 7-on-7 visits, we will be able to uncover athletes that many have never heard about.
Also, there are current seniors who didn’t get the looks they deserved – and obviously – the pandemic had everything to do with it.
We hope you enjoy our coverage of all Florida high school football year-round.
THE MALPICA FILE
NAME: Zach Malpica
CLASS: 2022
SCHOOL: Cape Coral Ida Baker
POSITION: LB/Athlete
HEIGHT: 6-3
WEIGHT: 240
THE SCOOP: Where do you start with this “throwback” football talent who plays everywhere and does just about everything?
From production on the field to work in the weight room (325 bench, 525 squat, 325 clean) and the classroom (3.25), this is indeed one of these way under-the-radar football talents who means just about everything to this team – with all that he does, and is willing to do.
Watch him play the linebacker position and he reads plays very well. His anticipation of the flow is impressive – and he is a sure tackler, who puts up big numbers.
On offense, the team used him everywhere – from tight end to fullback – and he responded.
A multi-sport athlete, who not only participates all over the football field. But plays basketball, wrestles, weight lifts and takes part in track & field.
Comes from a motivated, athletic family – where his father is a coach, uncles and father played college and pro football and baseball.
Here is a born leader and motivator!
